Hi everyone, phew it's a warm one! I haven't been on the forum for quite a while but have a little matter that has been bought to my attention re 2 yr funding and I am hoping there is someone who knows a little more about this please. I have a memo reporting that a journalist at the BBC has heard that some schools are being offered incentives of £2k to take these little people and that day nurseries have been offered £500.The offer is coming from some local authorities although I don't know which ones they are. As a member of the PSLA committee I have been asked to put it to the forum in the hope that someone might know a little more about this. Any tho…

We are closing early for our Christmas concert, so one of our afternoon sessions will not be running, although we will still be open for half of the session for the concert to parents We will not be charging parents for this who are invoiced and not funded. A parent of a funded child has asked that she can have her funded hours that are being missed for the session at another time. Do we have to offer this? This closed afternoon session being will affect another 10 funded children but no-one else has asked for the session being made up elsewhere. What should we do?

Just heard from a new starter, older sister needs to go to Brazil (mum's home country) as she has treatment there for an on-going health condition which cannot be treated by nhs here and parents can't afford to go privately here. Anyway - mum intends to take our little starter her brother with her to Brazil and so won't be able to start until 7th Oct. If I can prove why he is not with us, will we still get his funding? don't mind if they deduct a month but wouldn't want family to miss out for rest of term, in fact, i think she would then delay until January.

Hi I'm new here so I would like to apologise if this has already been discussed (couldn't find anything). Anyway - I am a manager of a small pack away pre-school. We run on 98% capacity at the moment (will be less from September obviously). We have started charging £25 refundable deposit from all newly registered families in order to secure their place. The decision was made by the committee in order to avoid 'ghost' places never being taken up. We had a few cases when a family has been on the list for January or April, we kept the place booked in Autumn and turned people away and then - the place hasn't been filled as the family changed their mind! The £25 is n…

I need to let off some steam after having a run in with a parent who collected her child late from pre-school yesterday. This particular parent is notorious for being late to collect and I have had words with her in the past about trying to send her 15 year old daughter to collect (we have a strictly no under 18s policy on collections). Anyway, she arrived 10mins late yesterday and like any other parent, I gave her a late charge slip witht he collection time and her total charge. Now we are very generous with our late fees as I know others charge a lot more (£3.00 for 15mins). However, her (rather rude) reply to me was that she was not going to pay it because she can'…

http://www.nurseryworld.co.uk/news/bulletin/nurseryworldupdate/article/1181091/?DCMP=EMC-CONNurseryWorldUpdate Not sure if that link will work but its a nursery world piece about funding for creationist nurseries! I hadn't heard of them but they believe that the Loch Ness monster disproves evolution and they don't follow the EYFS! Odd.

Hello I'm wondering if any of you can offer advice. I have a parent who's child attends Mondays, Wednesday's and Friday's. Parent always complains when bank holidays come that she's entitled to 15 hours and we're not allowing that by closing, she demands another day to make up for this, threatening she knows people in early years and knows her rights :@ Anyhow to cut a long history short we have always attempted to accommodate this parents wishes, bust back in November her child was sent home with diorreha our policy is 48 hours before return, the parent attempted to return her child the before 48hrs and was turned away, uproar was the outcome! Ok so to t…

Have you seen this article http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-21833929 I presume when the reporter talks about the childcare vouchers she is referring to salary sacrifice schemes and not the universal early education funding which some people still refer to as childcare vouchers.
