I have a child that has attended this term only 6 out of a possible 26 sessions. In January I reduced sessions from 5 to 3 because child had not attended many sessions during autumn term . The excuse that was that it was too cold to come out. They easily agreed to this because 2 of the sessions were morning sessions and they do not get up very early although they did offer to bring the child at 10.30 instead of 9.00. Things have not improved. I have explained today that the early years could ask for the money back.Their answer was that this wouldn't worry them because they will get legal aid.Parent is now saying child always comes home with an illness so its my fault.I d…

What Happens When A Child Reaches 5?

Can anyone help? We have a child who is going to be 5 soon. Dad refuses for the child to go to their local school as he doesn't like it and all of the other schools are full. This leaves a difficult situation with us where we have no way of ensuring this child is on target (other than our LA advisor who doesn't seem to have time to advise on individual achievements). I explained that their child should be in full time ed by their fifth birthday, Dad has hinted that they feel the system states they will still be able to send their child to us if they chose to pay and try to home ed as well. I've never had such an argumentative parent and they are'nt listen…

Hi to all of you, Having read through some of your posts looking for inspiration for our next topic of Nursery Rhymes I am now asking for your feedback about a sensitive issue; We are a small team of 7 staff, 1 being an admin role. Since the new year 1 member of the team has not come to planning meeting or given an apology, has not come to setting up morning before we came back in January, has put a picture of herself with a black eye on facebook with description, has said she is dreading coming in to work on facebook. She has only worked 3 days since the new year because when i discussed my issues with her, she got signed off with stress from the doctor after…

Hello I was wondering if anyone could recommend a nursery software package which is easy to use and not too expensive. I am keen to have invoicing, reports and all child details, observations etc in electronic format if possible. I own two settings and would like to update my paperwork systems. Any advice would be appreciated. Many thanks

Hi Just wondered how others manage parties and events and get around the funding issue. Basically we have to be open to children for 38 weeks...children can claim up to 15 hrs per week...our school year is 38 weeks funded plus 5 unfunded days when staff do INSET...staff are paid but we do not claim funding... Okay now whenever we try to hold a group event like Christmas party / trip we always run into issues about how this works with the funding. Example being that on a friday in december we have discussed having a party to be attended by all children...obviously those already booked in on the session are funded / fee paying...but what happens to the others? …

Funded Places For 2 Year Olds

Hello All I work in a Primary School and am based in the Nursery. Our Head Teacher is very keen that we start taking 2 year olds. I am unsure how this works. Do any of you good people already do this? Please can you fill me in on what it entails. Do parents apply for vouchers? How? From whom? How many 2 year olds do you take? How long do the sessions run for? How many days do children attend??? Please assume that my knowledge base is very limited, so any information would be wonderful. Also, are there any web sites I should consult???? Thank you.

Essex Re Top Up Fees
by Guest- 13 replies

Hi, I'm sure this has probably been covered before and I have done a forum search on here and google but am still unsure A nursery near us in Essex has charged a parent top up fees on her 15hrs free entitlement saying the government voucher doesn't cover the nursery cost per hour. She is not happy and came to us for advice. I am in a Preschool so it is a little different I guess but by my understanding the 15 hours were free entitlement. Research seems to show that this is a bit controversial and some areas do charge top up fees and some don't but can anyone help me out for Essex, the council website doesn't give any info on top up fees. I don't have an opinion either …

Had a phone call today from the NEG admin lady. She was calling because a parent who removed her child from us at the end of the spring term has complained that I am charging her for the hours her child had OVER the 165 he was entitled to.( she removed him because I gave her a bill for the child's hours) This is the parent who told me her child didn't attend for one of the days he was attending each week!Anyway, the admin lady says because the parent has complained, she has a duty to look into it......................but, although I am happy to co-operate with them ( I have nothing to hide, and the parent owes us almost £180), my question is WHAT has it got to do with th…

Child Care Vouchers - Please Help
by Guest- 9 replies

Hi Everyone, Myself and my colleague have recently taken the plunge to throw in our teaching jobs and open a nursery. I have regularly used the parts of the forum that deal with school age children but am now switching to join you guys. Anyway, just a few questions about the child care vouchers e.g. Do we need to sign ourselves up to various companies or are we able to accept vouchers from any company running the scheme? How do we redeem the vouchers? Hope someone can help as we are a little confused.
