I had an interesting conversation today about the fact that settings in our Authority receive extra funding per child if they have an EYP on the staff team. Not everyone can or is willing to grow their own EYP and so the question was asked how many hours the EYP would need to work in the setting in order to qualify for the higher rate of funding. We got an answer of a sort - EYPs do actually have to work with the children in the setting in order to qualify, so they couldn't just be involved with the group on a consultancy basis. However no-one seemed to know exactly how many hours the EYP would need to be there. So the question I'd like to ask is are there any set…

Have just heard that our funding for next year wont change. Which is kind of a relief as I was dreading a cut in our per head grant. But no change and we also still get the additional deprivation fund, qualification extra ( so much extra for Managers that are L4/5 or 6) and each setting will still get £1300 admin grant, that is payable in the summer term. So anyone else heard yet?

I have received an email today from Save Our Nurseries they are seeking any new members for whom they do not currently have e mail addresses for who are interested in finding out about their activities to lobby Parliament regarding the Single Funding Formula and how it affects all those in Early Years Education. For more info go to www.saveournurseries.org and register with them. They are particularly keen to track down another 6,000 nurseries that they know are out there! They already have over 9,000 registered with them.

Now we are all delivering the 15 hours entitlement, I am interested in doing research on what this actually means to your setting and how it affects sustainability and the ability to offer places. For example. I have just realised that if I offer a child 9.00am to 2.00pm at a parents request, that will cover two sessions. A child will loose the opportunity of accessing an afternoon session and I will loose revenue both from receiving only 5 hours of NEG funding instead of 6 and from any top up fees of a paying parent. My fees for a day for Pre-School are £30.00. 5 hours of neg funding only provides me with revenue of £16.70 in my area. That is a loss on a full…

Aaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggh!!!!!! Right glad I got that out of the way. Back to being proffessional. Need advice/ help and just a general sounding off! We currently have a little girl in our school nursery who has a number of additional needs. She has a statement and an SSA has been appointed for her. One of the main issues (for parents) is that she has no language at the moment. Her parents have voiced their concerns that because she has no language they can't talk to her about what she has done that day and would like a daily review about what she has done in nursery. The main problem is that her SSA has to dash off at 3.15 (home time). After cons…

Has anyone fro Birmingham had any info yet regarding the delivery of the 15 hours? We were told at a meeting in May/June that information would be coming out before the summer break, but so far nothing. I can phone Shaz at the EY dept. but I thought I'd try here first.
