Nef For 3 And 4 Year Olds

Hi, Could someone please clarify what the minimum number of sessions per week a NEF child is entitled to. We currently have children who attend two days a week (in full day care setting) who are entitled to free childcare and the parents are charged for the second day only. Due to recent audit we have now been told that we will have to repay monies received for those children who only attended two days a week as we have been overpaid and should only have received a proportion of the full entitlement. ie no more than 5 hours??? If this is correct it means we are going to have to ask our entitled parents to pay more. Has anyone else been in this dilemma? Look forward to h…

Following on from the discussion recently, I'm going to a committee meeting this Friday to suggest that we increase our rate for unfunded children so that it's in line with the grant. At the moment this is £3.48 in our area. I just think this will streamline our invoicing and make life much easier, especially once we go onto the 15 hours in September. I also think we should charge the going rate for the quality service we provide, plus we need to cover at least our staffing costs from fees and funding and at the moment the grant doesn't do that for us (we go quite a lot better than the required ratio, usually we're at about 1:4 or sometimes even more). Is anyone wi…

Charging More For 2 Yr Olds?
by Guest- 9 replies

Hi, I have just been involved in some financial planning for my son's pre-school of which I'm on the committee. Usual story of low numbers in the Autumn term which build up through the year. They will make a loss in the Autumn based on predicted numbers at the moment. Lots of children are off to school so they will be left with the younger children initially. They are registered for 2.5 to 5 year olds but if they have more 2 year olds obviously the ratio needs to be 1:4. They currently charge £3.50 an hour (same as our grant funding) for everyone. They are a charity pre-school mainly open in the mornings. Does anyone in a similar village set-up charge a highe…

Being Closed - What Do You Do?
by Guest- 13 replies

If you are closed due to things beyond your control like weather and unavailability of premises - do you offer funded children an alternative day? I had to announce that my setting would be closed on election day and one parent asked what happens to the funding for his daughter for that day when I explained that we didn't have space on another session. He didn't like the fact that we still receive funding for his child when she couldn't attend. ppp

Hi Can you tell me those of you in full day care settings how the funding is worked out for parents It has been suggested to us that we either do 15hrs x 38 weeks and the parets pay the full fees in no funded weeks or that we could split the funding over the whole year which would be approx 11 hours per week. We are getting in a muddle! thanks sharon

I have read the Code and am none the wiser. I am finding out for a friend who is budgeting, basically. From September the allowance is 15 hours - am I correct in assuming that you can take the whole 15 hours before top-ups can be charged? At the mo, she gets the first 2.5 hours of a 5 hour session free. My recollection is that from September, if she is just doing 2 afternoons, they will be free - or will the setting then insist on minimum of 4 afternoons? If anyone can shed light, that would be helpful

Directed Time

I am the team leader for a foundation stage unit in a school and am looking at staffing for next year. Obviously with the 3 hour sessions the amount of directed teaching time would be 30 hours. If this were reduced by 3 hours ppa (10%) and she was given 3/4 hour daily to run clubs i.e. not directed time but not having to run these after school taking teaching time down to 23.15 hours. Then she could be asked to attend only relevant staff meetings and planning meetings would this be ok relative to the rest of school if we made theirs equivalent? I am trying to think of ways around this has any body got an ideas or examples of what they are doing? Thank you
