Well you practically had to drag myself and the staff from the ceiling this morning we were so excited. I had a meeting with a funding lady about joining the 2 year old pilot scheme, which we have done. As we were chatting she was asking about the hours we do, we already do 3 hour and 6 hour sessions. She asked if she had been in contact with us about doing the 15 hours this term which she hadn't. Then she said can you do it this term - yes! We get an increased rate for the extra 2 and a half hours, plus £1.25 per child per week (we have 50 funded children!) AND we get £2500 capital grant AND £3000 grant for providing flexible funding!!!!!! I couldn't believe it. My m…

We have just been told we will receive 100.00 per child more for the next 3 terms to cover total flexibility and extended hours. This equates to 3.16 hour , which I find an insult!!!!How can you provide top quality on this hourly rate?

Birmingham 15 Hour Funding

I am looking for clarification regarding what Birmingham Early Years rules are going to be on providing 15 hours free entitltment for children as from September. I have seriously took time to work out the cost implications this week-end and no how I work it out I am going to be making a loss. I believe the this years funding has been set at £3.40, which appears to be lower than in other areas of the country. How also are we expected to pay staff. Staff are not that flexible as they need to pay their bills so they want employment for at 7.5 hours per day. Given that we also have children who come in at 7.30 and don't leave until 5.30pm, I need to employ staff …

After some advice with regards the 15 hour entitlement. At present we are open 5 mornings a week, some parents have enquired if we will be offering back to back sessions from September, we are a sessional Pre-School within school grounds. If we offered 9-12 & then 12-3 what would happen about staff lunch breaks, if any of you offer this do you have morning staff & afternoon staff? Also I assume I would need to inform Ofsted and I assume we would still be classed as sessional daycare? Quite a few questions just trying to work out what will work best, at the moment we offer a lunch club 3 days per week and parents would still want this to continue, This would mea…

Can I just add a little thought to this whole Free Entitlement issue. Parents do not have to claim the Free Entitlement. I have had, and will have in the future, parents entitled to the childcare element of Working Famiies Tax Credits who need to live on tight budgets. The parents have, at my suggestion, weighed up the two entiltements and have decided that it is easier for them to continue claiming the same amount from WFTC all year round than having to tell the tax office that their childcare costs vary between term and holiday time; so they do not claim Free Entitlement. I would not want to withdraw from the Free Entitlement as some of my parents are on b…

I Don't Understand.....

Hi, Perhaps there could be a whole new forum area with this heading!! I have been reading Nursery World and I just don't understand about the 15 hour funding stuff. I am from a teaching background, new to pre-school and the Committee chair deals with all the funding but I want to understand... So if you are a private or charity setting open for lets say 30 hours a week you don't charge a 3 or 4 year old for the first 15 hours and you get a set amount from the government per child per hour e.g £3.55. After 15 hours you can charge what you like? So if you had lots of people just doing 15 hours that is your total funding. Can you specify how many funded places…

Why? We went to all the seminars, read the consultation papers, filled out the response form and thought we understood it all! we sorted our flexibility- parents can drop off at 9/9:15,12 or 1 pick up at 12,1or3 so thats offering 2,3,4,or 6 hour session still we got an f2 very dissappointed and cant understand it when some have got f3 and only offer 1 drop off time and 3 pick ups have asked for reasons from eecu but they dont know! tried to contact winchester but phone lines constantly busy so have emailed. it means we loose 32p an hour per funded child soon mounts up sorry for the rant, has anyone else had/having any problems with it?
