Problems With Sff

After calming down over the holidays I have noticed several problems with our local authority ways of working the SFF. It must be clear transparent and fair. They have assumed a ratio of 13:1 at all times which in a private nursery operating 10 hours a day in a flexible manner is impossible. Nursery schools are allocated an amount of over £8000 every year for their Senco regardless of whether they have SEN children in where PVIs can claim up to £750 per child. Lastly no element of profit has been built into the formula. As owner I take on in my opinion the role of a headteacher in a nursery school for which they are paid £68000. An amount of just over £5000 has been …

Single Formula Funding 1 2

Hello, Currently our local authority are consulting providers on Single Formula Funding, we have been asked to comment on funding that offers a base rate and then ‘supplements’ for quality, deprivation and flexibility. One of the issues is that the base rate varies according to the number of funded children at each setting, under the new proposals , settings who offer a small number of NEG funded places will receive a much higher hourly rate per child than settings offering more NEG places. The rates vary from £4.43 per hour for 8 funded children and decrease on a sliding scale to £3.38per hour for those settings offering up to 65 funded places. Therefore t…

3 Hour Entitlement In Birmingham
by Guest- 2 replies

Please would somebody be kind enough to clarify when the 3 hour entitlement for children entitled to receive the NEF funding is to start in Birmingham. I know it has started for some nurseries in disadvantaged areas, but I am in an OK area and thought it was from September. I have had several parents contact me who have been informed by the Family Information Bureau that they can now take their 15 hours as flexibly as they want and that the 15 hours has started now. This leads me onto another issue which I would be grateful if anybody could feed back about what they do/intend to do? If a parent wants to take their 15 hours over 2 or 3 days and those …

2 Year Old Entitlement 1 2

This morning I received an email from the LA saying that the two year old entitlement was to be extended out county wide on a first come first serve basis. Brilliant I thought - we are in an area of deprivation and I have at least 4 mums who could do with the help. However having read the form it is not good! First it asks about financial stuff - fair enough then it goes on to additional criteria a whole list of things ranging from lone parent, sufferer of domestic violence, suffering from disabilities, speech and language needs etc etc but the final one is black and minority ethnic families!!!! Basically this means that if I have two, two year olds in my set…

Surely This Isn't Right

Hi all Can someone please advice me on funding between playschools. Sadly a playschool in the area has closed giving parents just 2 weeks notice. They would have received their 1st installment of the funding, but not their final payment. 3 of the children that attended there have now registered with us, but we're being told by the authorities that we will not be able to claim the funding for them until next term!!! Surely this can't be right. The money that was allocated to the playschool that closed , must still be sitting in the pot. Has anybody else been in this situation?

I am sure someone can put a link to this. Its all getting a bit nasty now but a level playing field MUST be achieved if we are delivering the same EYFS. My blood boils when I read this kind of thing. The PVI sector provide good quality childcare or at least I hope we all strive too and have not been in it for the money-what money???

We have been inundated with letters last week requesting information from our LEA. They are asking 1. Registration numbers and floor space 2 Total Hours accessed over the 12.5. Postcodes of children attending 3. Salaries of manager, EYP, Nursery Nurses and assistants ,admin relating only to the NEG????? 4 Detailed weekly costs only to do with 3-4 years ie waste, rates, resources. At end of November is this not a bit worrying? I cannot see what the salary of my admin asst has to do with the Single Formula Are schools being asked for this detailed information only to do with the formula. I would like to know what the formula is before we give it. By the way the…
