Hello everyone, I currently work at a Maintained school which includes a preschool (recently part of the school). We are considering a re-structure to a Nursery class (teacher led). Governors have asked me to look at creating a new model and to present it to them. Whilst I have worked in many different EY settings over the years but the part I really don't know about is the funding. I already know that employing the Teacher will be a big consideration on finances, but will it affect the 3-4 yr old funding in other ways? I have thought I could look at the demand / how many working parent , current session take up etc. But are there any other considerations? D…

We received this via email from the team at Childcare Works. You may or may not have had it - but it would be useful to get the feedback form filled in and get your voices heard. "Childcare Works aim to achieve the delivery of childcare for 2-,3- and 4-year-olds whilst promoting the ideals of high-quality, efficiency, accessibility, flexibility and affordability. To achieve this, it is critical that we address the barriers to implementation, share solutions and resources, and direct time and effort where it is needed and will have the most impact. To make this a reality we must work alongside providers, local authorities, and central government, developing a det…

As reported in Nursery World the Government have scrapped the Early Years Investment fund. In November 2016, we fed back on the Foundation Stage Forum from the LED meeting in London. You can read our notes from that meeting on this thread: 30 hours LED event London 21st November 2016. During this meeting we were told by DfE about an investment fund which would help providers access funds for expansion and development in relation to their delivery of the 30 hours scheme. The relevant slide from the presentation is here. Mention of this fund is now conspicuously absent from the Sources of income for early years providers. Nursery World challenged DfE and aske…

Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete our survey recently. We had 867 respondents. Some respondents were kind enough to allow us to share their data with the Pre-school Learning Alliance and this added weight to a front page article in The Observer last weekend. You can read the article and comment on this thread: A thousand nurseries close as free childcare scheme falters. The summary results of our survey are posted below. The headline data is interesting: The financial impact of the 30 hours scheme has been that 36% of our respondents have seen their income fall since September and 37% have seen no change, with the majority of the 'no change' …

Question from a member: Hi there Can anyone shed any light on training being given to maintained nurseries regarding 30 hours provision? In particular how to share this with parents too. It appears that this is only being given to the private sector at present. If so why is this not being given to all parties?

We haven't yet been able to claim the additional hours (over the universal 15) for children using up to 30 hours funding. Our headcount day was 21st September and there was a technical problem on our funding portal, meaning we couldn't enter any additional hours. This still hasn't been fixed and now we're nearly in mid-November without being able to claim. I emailed my LA yesterday and received an automated reply saying they will respond within five working days. I'm now reminding parents to renew their codes for next term and we haven't claimed this term! I wondered if anyone else had experienced these delays? PS We have been paid for the universal hours cla…
