In Kent we had a 400 strong attendance at a Local Authority meeting about the KCC delegated conditions required of us to receive NEG. The following e-mails I received today sets out the partial success and how the battle commences. If you are affected by low NEG rates, concerned about sustainability then please take the time to read how PEOPLE POWER has worked but also see how more people like yourselves can make a difference and get the NEG catastophe changed. email from te Kent Association: Dear Provider, Although the meeting on Tues was a major milestone, and KCC were publically humbled and humiliated and sent back to the drawing board, it is vital that we…

Nursery World feature today gives details of a DFES consultation on Nursery Education Grant. THIS IS GREAT NEWS AND SHOWS THAT PROVIDERS WHO HAVE COMPLAINED OF CURRENT SUSTAINABILITY ISSUES ETC NOW HAVE A CHANCE TO PUT THEIR VIEWS ACROSS. FIND IT HERE http://www.dfes.gov.uk/consultations/conDe...ultationId=1466 It's called "The school, early years and 14-16 funding consultation" Chapter 5 is the section relating to early years. There are 4 proposals which are quite complex and need a lot of thought. NDNA have produced a briefing paper to support understanding of the consultation, this is available for non members as well as NDNA members because they feel that…

Can A School Claim The Neg Funding?
by Guest Praesus Infelix- 19 replies

Hi, Maybe a dumb question but is there any reason why the main school/head/govenors can't take over the preschool and claim the funding? If private Nurseries can claim the grant surely a school can do so? Or is it to do with the way schools are funded? Confused....

Dfes Consultation Document

Does anyone know anything about a consultation document that's floating around at the moment? Apparently it's to do with government proposals to reduce the amount of funding given per child to maintained nursery classes and schools and to give more to the VIP sector to bring funding amounts across the board more into line.

Hi Have spent the afternoon looking at cash flow/budget for remainder of this year. Couldn't put if off any longer! Suddenly occurred to me that the NEG should go up for the summer term ie April 07 to March 08. So took a look on our local council website and found that the NEG for 07-08 for Dorset is £42.10 per week for 12.5 hours which means our NEG will increase from £8.20 to £8.42 per session. I'm sure there's a letter in the post but haven't been in to check.

New twist in the tail. Something has been queried at our day care meetings. When you receive the nursery grant from the LEA should it be put down as non taxable income? How are other nursery owners/ managers treating it?

Hi. Just filling in my headcount form for next term so I can claim our funding and for the first time ever in my 12 years at Nursery we are 97% full!!! We seem to have had new children coming out of the woodwork this month, considering in January we were really worried we didn't have enough children and I currently have an enforced day off and work one day voluntarily (only paid 3 sessions that is). I am pleased, but very aware of what hard work next term is going to be with 20 x 2 to 5 year olds each day! Considering the birth rate was supposed to be continuing to drop in our area I am pleased we're full..... what about you. What are your numbers looking like?

Childrens Centre Funding
by Guest- 5 replies

Can anyone tell me if a child is attending a Childrens Centre and paying fees how much does the Centre receive per child if they are over 3 years. I have a few meetings coming up but we never get a proper answer to this question. If we have some ideas from around the country it may help. I know the DFES have asked all local authorities to tell them how much is being allocated per different type of settings.
