Hope this is the right place to put this. At our preschool children who have a funded place often leave us in the term they are four to go to LEA nursery. What often happens if the parent chooses an afternoon place and their child continues on with us in the mornings. Of course we then only get fees rather than funding which is significantly lower in our case. Does anybody else have this in their setting. Abijac.

Has anybody heard about any changes to the government funding in 2006 ? I was told by my headmaster today that the amount of weeks for funding is going up, and that as an independent school nursery we will not be able to recieve any funding .As we are only open for 35 weeks we will not qualify because you have to offer the full amount of weeks. This would mean keeping the nursery open for two weeks after the rest of the school has closed! Can anybody help ???????????

Fees And Funding

Hi all, In my area I have the lowest fees. £4.75 am session 9.30-12.00 £4.25 pm session 12.30-3.00 £1.50 if you want to stay fro lunch (makes a 3hr session) or £10.50 for 9.30-3pm I am a committee run pre school and all our overeads are met with some over. We are not competing for the lowest fees but why charge more when you don't need to. We normally have half funded and half fee paying. I have now been told by 2 separate pre schools in my area that ofsted has told them that they must out there fees up so they are more in line with the £7.?? funding money, so the funding money is not compensating for the fees. Has anyone else heard this. …

Conditions Of Funding

I have just read my local Early Years and Childcare Autumn news and I am really annoyed at yet another monitoring procedure for my setting. Our area has set up a procedure for "Monitoring of provider adherance to the conditions of free early educational funding" It will entail 2 visits to a select number of settings ( I don't know if these are random selections or not) 1. A foundation stage team of 2 or 3 people who will look at my delivery of the foundation stage curriculum, including the degree in which it is fully inclusive. 2. An administration team, again 2 or 3 people who will look at my business and financial planning, admissions, the provision of…

Headcount Week

Hi, We had headcount week last week, 25th - 29th. We have to get our register paperwork etc to the county council by Tuesday 3rd May. A lot of providers in my area find this timescale really difficult because they cannot be sent until registers are completed on the last day ( Friday 29th). I missed the post on Saturday, (can't rely on 1st class anyway) so on my "Bank Holiday" day off I am having to drive a 40 mile return journey to deliver my paperwork by hand ( hope they've got a letterbox at County Hall ). I am too busy at work to do it on Tuesday. If paperwork is not in we lose the grant Does anyone else have such a tight timescale, and how do you mana…

Have just read an article in March/April Nursery Management Today that Stoke on Trent EArly Years have issued a letter to their childcare providers and I quote from the article: "I am writing to inform you that a number of local authorities have introduced additional criteria to the three and four year education grant. The criteria states that any childcare provider in receipt of the grant now has to have achieved an Investors in Children endorsed quality award to access the funding"!!!!!!!!! A DFES spokesman said that local authorities have the flexibility to set additional reasonable conditions for receipt of early education funding by providers. Whilst we hav…

I havent seen a copy of the 10 yr statedgy, but from what I've heard the NEG is going to be increased to cover 38 weeks. Comments on the U5's site appear to suggest that there isnt actually any extra money, just that if a child attends 3 sessions with the entitelment being 55 overall, those children can have the extra sessions paid for i.e the 2 sessions over the term until they've reached the 55. Can anyone shed any light on this?

I have finally decided to charge top up fees for the funded children at my pre-school starting in January next year. I have been subsidising these children for the extra 5/6 weeks a year we are open and also for the extra 1/2 hour a day. The pre-school is open for 38/39 weeks of the year - 5 days a week - 9am - 12 noon. There is also a lunch club from 12 noon - 1pm that some children stay for - parents pay extra for this. I am a bit concerned about writing to parents informing them of the change. Has anyone had experience of this recently? This topic has probably been discussed before, but I would also like to know if a child only attends 4 mornings a week, would …

Did you know that settings are no longer required to have an hour lunch break in between nursery education grant (NEG) sessions? Meals and snacks are considered to be part of a child's educational experience and therefore can be counted as part of their NEG session. This means that if a child is attending a setting from 8am until 1pm their parent is allowed to claim for two sessions. This practice fits well with the governments aim to provide flexible, affordable childcare. (as quoted in Sure Start Training leaflet) Sue J
