https://www.netmums.com/child/government-announces-a-50-million-boost-to-childcare-scheme I dont follow things as closely as I could/should, but I was under the impression the SFF would be rolled out and according to some sources some of us would be worse off. Is this extra funding just for the areas mentioned? £4.30 would be manna from heaven!

The NDNA have released their annual survey about the state of the EY sector. The NDNA are great advocates for providers and so completing their survey accurately and honestly makes it easier for them to represent the sector comprehensively. The deadline for completion is 4pm on Wednesday 8th February. Access the survey here. I have just had a look - you will need to have your finance details to hand - you will need your staff costs, running costs and your projection income and impact data

So at last it's official. I attended a Local Authority meeting this morning and we were told that our funding would be cut from next April. At present my LA pays increasing amounts of funding depending on the highest level of qualification of staff working with three and four year olds. So if you have an EYP/EYT you get a higher rate, level 4 or 5 a bit lower, level 3 the base rate. This is all being scrapped and from April we will all get the base rate. This will mean a drop of about 30p per hour per child for us. No reward for doing as we were told and employing a graduate led workforce. Add to this the living wage, auto enrolement and 30 hours at a lower rate in…

So then, according to this calculator my funding rate will be going down, not up!! We are already losing out on the current rate, so I have no idea what we are going to do if it goes down and then also have to manage the 30 hours of funding too.  http://www.pre-school.org.uk/EYNFF

The following website is a campaign to stop the "School Cuts" http://www.schoolcuts.org.uk/#/ This is understandable because when the NFF is implemented they will lose money from their Pre-School children funding. So this raises many questions in itself! Q1) Why do Maintained Pre-School settings get approx twice the amount of funding per child, and have done for years? A1) The obvious answer is qualifications of course. The public sector like to pay themselves good wages no matter how they perform! Q2) Are better qualified staff, better for children? Just because a person has qualifications, does this make them a better role model for children? A2) I …

On Monday I attended the 30 hours event in London. I've never been to such a 'packed out' event - it's very clear how strong the feelings are regarding this issue. There were various presentations - I'll talk about each one in turn. I have permission to put the slides up on FSF and we are working with the 'Childcare works' team to provide a dedicated forum space on FSF for their materials as they are very keen to get their message out across as wide a range of people as possible. Firstly, the team from 'Childcare works' spoke. I was impressed by their drive and commitment, they led on the 'Achieving two year olds' project as well. Childcare works is the project title a…

We (FSF HQ) have been approached by the Petitions Committee at Westminster to share our views in answer to a series of questions. The questions will be discussed on Monday 21st November and so we haven't got long to get our views together. I will need all the views by next Wednesday lunchtime (16th November) - that gives me a couple of hours to organise them and send them off to the committee. All comments will then be summarised and will form part of the 'debate pack' that is given to the MPs. I am going to attend the debate and will tell you all about it on the 23rd. There are 3 questions - please make it clear which question you are answering! Not all the questions a…

I'm really starting to panic about the 30 hours funding in 2017... how am I going to forecast places!? We are a very popular nursery. Our current group that will be eligible in 2017 are limited to 32 places a day, the mornings are now full and afternoons will be taken up as they take their 15 hours over the year. My preschool room can take 40 a session... so that gives me 8 places a day. I'm getting enquiries for new children to start in 2017 and they are talking about getting the 30 hours... Do I get my existing children that might be eligible to start booking in now?? But what happens if the criteria changes? Do you think it will??? Then what happens if some children …

I was hoping to find out some accurate information even at this early stage, regarding how the 30 hours are funded? If a child attends your setting for 30 hours per week, and the base rate is £4.00 this would be a base payment of £120.00 per week. Then we have the puzzle of supplements of course. I understand these supplements are being paid at a max 10% of base rate? So a max additional payment of 40p if this is correct. 30 hours x £4.40 = £132 per week for 30 hours childcare. Would this be an accurate figure at this stage? If parents require 40 hours per week they would pay just £60 per week extra for this.. also the opportunity to add on payments for food a…
