Extended Services Snacks And Food

We are new to running an extended service, breakfast and afterschool and soon to be holiday clubs. We are already a preschool. I just wondered whether it was acceptable to serve things like chocolate spread ?? I am fully aware of the healthy eating ethos as we always have healthy options like fruit but some children want chocolate spread on their toast or swet coated cereal. Just wondered what foods other providers offered and whether the chocolate is a definite no no as far as Ofsted are concerned. Many Thanks Roz

Any Other Examples Please?

Hi I posted yesterday asking what after school clubs did re cancellation fees/ or cancellation notice. Anyone else out there wiling to share their afterschools policy regarding this please? I have had a Dad complain re being charged when child off sick. We offer flexibility in that 24 hours notice to cancel a place means they dont get charged which I think seems unusual but he is saying its not fair to be charged when you cant give notice that your child is ill. I wanted ammunition for a meeting with him and my afterschool club team for a possible change in policy....... one he may well not like anyway!!! Grateful for your thoughts re clubs you use or run…

Hi all. I have been managing an afterschool club as part of the extended school provision at a primary school since September 2008. I have had a parent query/ argue with us over our cancellation charge and thought I would take the opportunity to ask you what you do when a child does not turn up for a session they are booked into. This parent is saying that our policy is not clear and not fair. He maintains he should not be charged when his child is off ill, and that if she is ill he cannot give the required 24 hours notice we ask for when cancelling so charges are not incurred. I am trying really hard to keep costs down and I ask that 24 hours notice for …

Showing Dvds

Hi Just wondered if any schoolclub who shows DVDs have got a licence ie PVSL or is it covered by the LEA? Apparently some LEAs do cover it but Im still trying to find out if ours do! I think as school club we have to get one but looking into it (see attached leaflet) although we only have 48 children at any one time we have to get one for the numbers of children in the whole school!! The Dvds are used as the children eat their lunch during holiday club. Its all very confusing. The Head gave me a blank look when I asked him about it so dont think the school have got one either. pvsl_application.pdf

Hi All Wondered if any of you knowledgable lot could help out with this? I at present run a preschool and am thinking about adding a holiday club, breakfast club and afterpreschool club. just for the 3-5's we already have all the above in the village for the school aged children i would like to run it as a seperate business to the preschool, but it will be in the same hall. therefore being 2 seperate things, and not being a day nursery, this would not be possible from the hall Does anyone already do this? could i ask how much you charge and how it works? or am i totally being off the wall and dreaming up an idea that will not work at all!!!!!! Tha…

We have a fairly new OOSC and are still working out a few problems. We are in the grounds of a school but seperate from them. Today one of the children (we don't collect KS2, they come on their own) had not been told by his mum to come to us and ended up in the office where one of my staff found him. My question is, what would have happened if he had been able to walk home on his own and had left the school grounds? We could have checked the school office and phoned the mum but as she is obviously at work, that would not help the child. There are only 2 members of staff on duty as we are still small so one of us could not go and look for the child. Equally there are not…
