Hi Within our school grounds, we have a breakfast club and after school club for children ranging from 4 to 10. The foundation stage children that attend are not all regular and full time, they range from attending for just 30 minutes on 2 afternoons to full time every morning and afternoon. They have just been advised by are LA that they have to be observing and collecting evidence for the EYFS children. They have come to me for advice AND I Have come to you lovely people for advice! The only thing I can think of is.... a comprehensive dialogue between the foundation teachers and the pre care staff. Whereby we tell them what the children's next steps are so that t…

Planning Activities
by Guest- 3 replies

I know we are supposed to plan activites around the childrens interests, but two of our reception boys only want to play fight. When we do get them to stop they constantly try to play games involving guns and swords, armies and war. We have disscussed the issue with the parents, but they just said boys will be boys. We are not allowed to encourage violence and are struggling to come up with activities for them. The only one we could think of was paper aeroplanes but they just threw them at each other and made paper bombs. Can any one help us to come up with an activity they cann't turn into a fight?

Ive just had a read of the new school food based standards for food other than lunches. Its very strict but says its for schools so what I wish to know is as a preschool and offering extended services to the local primary school (voluntary led) should we not be providing any biscuits or cakes. We had planned to have the option of healthy snack or biscuit and drink after school but from what this is saying this is a no go area. Any help again appreciated.

Hi all, I am currently carrying out a research project for my BA Hons in Integrated Early Years practice looking at the qualifications of staff and their experiences of the EYFS in After School Clubs. Would Practitioners who work in the After School Club environment or commitee members, please click on the link below to complete a short survey. Confidentiality is assured as there is a tool in place which disables the facility to track your e.mail address. Thanking you in anticipation of your support. I manage a 46 place before and after school and holiday club. I was Ofsted'd in March 2010 and got a Good which i was relatively happy with, however i feel that the inspection process concentrated on the EYFS element of the setting and gave little consideration to the care of the rest of the children , which in my case is about 75-80% of the setting's users. I feel that the results of current After School Club inspections may not be a fair reflection of care provided overall. Does anyone else feel the same? I would appreciate any comments. I am in the final year of a BA Honours in Integrated Early Years practice and i am researching the inspection process of Af…

When To Tell The Parents

It has been said to me that I should not be taking on new children as we plan to close in September - but we can't manage on the childern we have. SO when should I tell the parents - given that closure could be brought forward if enough of them close ship. We are currently working on calling in everything owed and attempting to clear a minute daily surplus to pay off £2,500 rent arrears and find £3,000 redundancy
