We have just started our Out of School club and, although it is still quiet, things are going well. I need to explain to the teachers about the need for information sharing between us, which they know nothing about I must say. Can anyone give me a link to something that would provide me with an offical staement about their requirement to share with me to convince them?

Breakfast Clubs

A collegue of mine runs the breakfast club at our school. We have a mother who drops her child off in the car park every morning at 8am and drives away before he has got to the breakfast club door. My collegue does think this is unsafe, so a new system was put in to place ( parents now have to sign their child in, in a book at the door). The parent does not want to sign in her child so she complained to our Headmaster. He has drawn up a letter for her to sign saying her child can walk himself to Breakfast Club and the Breakfast Club staff are not responsable for him until he comes to the door. Is this allowed? If it is we will have to go along with it. If not …

Ideas For Tea!

Hi everyone Happy new year!I am hoping you will share some ideas with me.I am hoping to revamp our tea menu at After school club.We try to provide a light tea/snack .Currently we do things such as crumpets/sandwiches/wraps/dips/soup. We do have a small cooker with hob so can provide some hot things but as there is no kitchen in school the children have a packed lunch. We can't provide a full cooked meal so the emphasis is on something healthy to "keep them going "until they have dinner at home! The children like to be involved as much as possible in the preparation. I would be grateful for any new simple healthy ideas. Biker

How To Work Out Holiday Entitlement?
by Guest- 5 replies

Hi All staff entitled to 5.6 weeks per year but public holidays have to be taken out of this. How do you work it out for club staff when they actually work different hours during the school holidays? They are now contracted to work 5 half sessions per week during school holidays (5 hours x 5 )however it all depends on the numbers of children in holiday club as they may not all be needed. I am thinking that we just pay staff for what they normally do during term time. Eg one staff member works an hour in the morning then 3 hours in the afternoon, mon to fri. So 5.6 weeks is 28 days and she gets paid for 20 hours (5 days) if she takes a week off. If it is a bank holi…

We Have A Manager!

Hi all Well at last we have recruited a manager. She is very young (20yrs) but is qualified and has 3 years childcare experience. With her and the current deputy we hope to get things covered. Noone else applied for the job. She was very sensible, got me to forward lots of info to her, came in for a session and we told her exactly how things were. Just need to do lots of training with her, but we think she will take it all on board. Fingers crossed it works out now!

Hi all Well heard it all now. Been on a course today and was told that they are still pushing forward that ALL staff in settings will be level 3 qualified. So get this......playworker at OOSC is level 2, finally got her to start level 3 playwork course sept. She has just received a letter from the LEA to say "because of funding cuts and time constraints there is no longer an option to complete the course before the end of the financial year. All work must be handed in by feb 18. It is important that you receive certification for the work you have done. If funding continues we will let you know" So what use is that especvially as I cant find another provider t…

New - Setting Up Extended Services

Hi, I am new here but wonder whether anybody could offer any advise. Our playgroup is shortly moving to a much larger purpose built building on primary school grounds. We are making many changes including doubling the number of children we can take. We are also starting to run Breakfast/After School and eventually Holiday Clubs for the school. A lot happening all at once and all being organised by a very small voluntary team!! I thought I would introduce myself and ask whether anybody has got any advise they can offer - I have found the local Play Association useful. Look forward to hearing from you. x
