Before & After School Club Fees

Hi All We have run a large out of school club (40 -60 children per day) for 16 years and we have traditionally offset the costs against other areas of our provision (Community Centre). However, over the years money has become tighter and tighter and over 90% of our income is now self generated with just a small amount coming from grants and contracts. So now it's time to bite the bullet and look at increasing our charges to better reflect the true cost of running the club. We currently charge £2.70 per hour which includes breakfast/tea plus snacks, drinks, materials for craft activites plus the usual activities such as role play, construction, games consoles, ac…

Becoming Registered With Hmrc

I have been running a voluntary run out of school club, so far, just a few activity sessions to entertain local children. This is becoming more popular and I think we will soon be in a situation where there are too many sessions to expect voluntary help and will need to offer to pay the staff. This is where the minefield begins! I have phone HMRC to enquire and they were very helpful and said I simply need to call them 4 weeks before I pay anyone and they will send me everything I need, including a CDROM to help me calculate what to pay etc.. Maths is seriously NOT my strong point. Does anyone else do this, without the help of a payroll company etc? Is it fairly stra…

Hi everyone I once saw on the internet a qualification grid that showed equivelence qualifications and I cannot find it again, can anyone help? The reason being a couple of years ago I was not qualified to help out at our afterschool club (I have a B'Ed)Ofsted said I needed a playworker qualification.I find this unbelievable especially as I am the performance manager for the afterschool workers. The leader has an NVQ2 and is working towards her level 3 (Ofsted know about this) I think that things have changed recently and HLTA's may even be qualified ? Thank you Tinkerbell

Hi looking at changing from Sept. Have got approval from OFSTED to use Early years room as well as the rooms we already currently use. We are thinking that we can have up to 8 children in the early years section ie early years, rec and year 1 children. These children would use the early years rooms whereas the older shildren the other rooms. All would be tog at snack time and playtime outside. Question..... Early year4s is on school grounds but is an adjacent building from the out of school room. Do we need 2 level 3s in to cover ie one for each room in each building or can we just have one lev 3 to cover all with another 2 level 2 and 1 unqualified? Deputy current…

·" for the early years children attending link activities to the areas of learning and include next steps in learning: use dated observations to show what children can do and what they need to do next " QUOTE FROM AN INSPECTION REPORT OF kIDS cLUB (NOT OURS) as a matter of fact we don't link ours specifically to the areas of learning, they are mostly not dated, although we do do obs and didn't get this comment.

A Difficult One!

Hi all Well our school club uses school but is separate (committee run). Our registration for 40 children states we have access to classroom with kitchenette, school library (next door, small has corridor running through it), hall and playground. Fine.....when weather is great kids dont use the hall as play outside. Problem occurs when weather is awful. Hall is used 3 days per week by after school activities run by school eg table tennis, archery and at the moment rehearsal for school production. Where do we stand then? We are surely going against our registration although OFSTED word it as Conditions are restrictions that Ofsted places on a registration. Prov…

Hi Well things are getting worse,, Background is i am new commitee member of out of school club. Temp manager , deputy ,3 qualified staff and 2 unqualified. Manager on maternity leave said she didnt want to come back. Deputy resigned (before grievance).Temp manager didnt want job as suffered at hands of staff (deputy and 2 qualified staff, no training etc). New Comm advertised for 2 months only got 1 application (good wage I add!) but she declined interview at last minute. New chair and myself asked temp manager to reconsider, we assured her we would train her, get systems in place for OFSTED as last visit was 4 and half years ago. She accepted. One qualified staff ma…

Hi Just wondered what happens re funding for school clubs that need to take on extra staff for a SEN child that needs one to one. (in fact we may even be looking for 2!) We have been told the school will take the funding? Is this correct? How, as a charity are we to finance this? We struggle to recruit anyway so not sure how we are going to get staff for this. Any advice re funding etc appreciated x

Hi Thanks for all the advice given so far (if I havent said it already on the thread concerned) Here is my mnext dilemma.... We are school and holiday club and open the 6 week hols. Bookings so far are very low for the holidays ...some days 1, 2 3 children to a max of 13. To break even we have to have 10 children attend which we have only got for the last week before school starts. We have got activities planned with people coming in to do workshops but this has failed to increase numbers. We have advertised in all the local villages and at fairs etc. As a committee it is not financially viable and we would be losing up to £150 per day if we did open . However, pa…

Insurance

We're hoping to open a preschool in the grounds of a school (we would be renting 3 rooms from the school). We are hoping just to be 9am - 4pm sessional care with a lunch club for working parents. The school will have the breakfast and after school club however the school insurance only covers 5 - 11 year olds. Is there anyway our insurance would cover our 3 - 4 year olds to be in the schools out of school club? The headteacher suggested we take the out of school club on but it's just not feasible and I know it doesn't make any money so we don't want to take on the loss.
