We are making a place for bugs to thrive! It is all linked in with a bio-diversity thing and I have looked on the net for various other 'Insect Hotels' and seen some good ideas, just wondered if anyone on here has made one or been involved in making one and has any advice/suggestions/comments....

Hi What happens for school club when a child that requires one to one due to SEN comes to club? Do they bring their own worker or does a staff member do it? How is it funded? Any info appreciated as I see this may be happening soon.

Hi Just wondered if someone could clarify... School clubs when OFSTED visit are they only concerned with Early Years, EYFS etc? What does OFSTED look for in school club? Its just all the reports I have seen seem to just include early years? Any info appreciated! (looking at joining committee tonight and club is due OFSTED at any mo!) Thanks x Also what is the voluntary/compulsary childcare register that OFSTED reports talks about? Are school clubs inspected on this also? Are they inspected by anyone else? eg LEA

Hi all Just wonderd if any of you out there are committee run. My son attends the out of school club and they are intersted in getting new members for their AGM on 14 April. Is it similar to a pre-school committee or are there big differences? I have worked with committees in a pre-school (nightmare!!) and also at my current pre-school (committee is excellent!). Thing is I could not tell you who are the current committee at the out of school club so thats not a good start is it??!!! Is it something I should look into about doing or stay well away from??!!! Do you hav a lot to do with your committee? Any info appreciated.

Just noticed a mini questionnaire about extended services on my facebook page. It turns out the DCSF is using facebook to promote awareness of what services are on offer. Here's the link for facebook users who haven't seen it. Maz

Planning For After School Club

I have been reading topics for pre-schools and schools etc on planning but they were all too technical. how do you plan, and how do you incorporate requirements of EYFS into a plan for everyone. Wev are still struggling with this one. We have up to 30 children a day aged 4 to 12 - up to 6 of these will be EYFS. I know that we are suposed to plan from children's interests, but my feeling is that children don't always know in advance what they will be interested in. also I need to keep older children motivated, and active. so, do you use topics, adult-directed activities, all child-initiated. And sample planning sheets would be nice. I will post mine when done. …

Hi all My son goes to before and after school club and has been there since Sept. This is committee run (ie parents). The thing is they say that they cant guarantee a place for him or any child! He goes every morning and thurs/fri after school. When I had to change my days (due to number at the pre-chool where I worked) the staff were not able to tell me if there was a place available for him the following month and were not allowed to give me the phone number of the committee member who deals with admissions. Instead I had to email the school club and wait until she picked up. Not ideal when you have a boss waiting to hear straight away is it? Took me over a week to sor…

please could someone clarify this for me. I did some training today, as I am CC teacher, for childminders and there was nearly a stand up row between two of them regarding provision for children who come to you after school, but who are not yet 5 and as such are still following EYFS development matters. One childminder was adamant that there is no longer a requirement to plan for these children's learning and development, only their safety and welfare, as they have been at school all day, but another childminder was equally adamant that because they are under 5 and you are their provider for 2.5 hours a day- 3:30-6p.m., then you still have to consider their learning a…

Eyfs In After School Clubs
by Guest- 5 replies

Hi, I just wondered if anyone has any experience of EYFS in After School Clubs? Our supervisor has been told by an advisor that after school clubs children are counted as EYFS from 0-5. e.g. even if they are in Y1 and still 5. Someone else has heard this from their NVQ course too. Is this right? I have only ever seen it written that EYFS is till the end of Reception (august 31st after they are 5). I have googled but haven't found anything about this. Do you think it is just a misinterpretation? Thanks,
