Hi All This time last year I was in the process of setting up our out of school club. It has been such a success! The children have had fun. The staff team has worked well together and three of us have completed L3 in playwork (despite 2 of us having a degree in EY and EYPs). To any of you thinking about doing this go ahead. The reward of being involved with children playing is enormous and incredibly worthwhile. Thank you to all of you who have given advice during the year.

Hi all, after a bit of advice... I am the current manager and registered person with Ofsted for the out of school club I run. I am due to go on maternity leave in a couple of weeks time and my current deputy will be stepping up and taking the manager role whilst I am on maternity leave. Having phoned Ofsted they have told me we have 2 options: -firstly we could change the registered person from me to the deputy and then back again when I return. -secondly we could leave me as the registered person but write to Ofsted and register my deputy as the manager. obviously the first option is more complicated and will involve more form filing, and possibly and inspection b…

I wondered whether of you lovely people could help with a query I have (well a grandparent has) I own a preschool and 1 of our grandparents (actually about my age - mid 40's) asked today if I could help. She has been the manager of an out of school club for about 7 years. They are committee run and completely separate from the school with the exception that they rent the school hall. The head teacher at the school is poking her nose in, asking to see the constitution and accounts and saying that the committee members are financially liable. The out of school club runs as a non profit making organisation. My question is can the head do this and are the committe…

Our OOSC has had a visit from our LA Advisor (first time in years) and she said that we were wrong to make children tidy up after themselves as Playwork says that play should not be interrupted for anything ever. Only adults should tidy anything. Personally I think this is awful. Play should still include an element of respect for others and the resources you are using. Certainly the younger children at nursery are encouraged to tidy after themselves and no adviser has ever objected to that. What do others think about this?
