I've just got back from my holiday to find an email from our out of school co-ordinator telling me there is some funding for our new out of school club. I'm waiting to find out how much but she's suggested out door area, or IT stuff. Can anyone suggest any good resources they have for their out of school children? The application form has to be back by Tuesday 28th and we have rather a busy week ahead of us getting the nursery ready for OFSTED's registration visit next week! thanks

Ofsted Registration

Wouldnt it be good to get a staright answer form the big "O"? About 6 months ago i asked them if school took over the club would they need to register with OFSTED. No was the reply it comes under the school (so long children from the school attend). Head wanted me to check again and this person says the governing body may have to re-register it (doesn that mean close etc??!!) or it could come under the remit of the school. If you are club etc that is under the school are you actually regsitered with OFSTED or just under the school? Thanks

Hi all, Our Nursery is registered to take children up to 8yrs in the school holiday and the owner of our nursery would like to develop some holiday themed workshops to encourage take up. It is a new nursery and this will be the first summer it has been open. I would be grateful for any words of wisdom and advice of what sort of themes/activities could work. The group would be age 3-8 y so needs to appeal to all. So far I thought perhaps an outdoor play day (we have a small wooded area, mud kitchen etc), dinosaurs and possibly an arty day with inside and outside large scale art. Help!! Thanks Kirsty

Are You Going To Deliver Eyfs?
by Guest- 0 replies

Hi all Well just read thequick reference guide to the changes to the 2008 curriculum on the foundation years site and it states "Wrap-around and holiday care: the framework now makes clear that the EYFS requirements do not need to be delivered in full when children spend limited amounts of time in a setting" Whe i read the actual framework it says Wrap around and holiday providers 1.3 Wrap around3 and holiday providers4 should be guided by, but do not necessarily need to meet, all the learning and development requirements. Practitioners should discuss with parents and/or carers (and other practitioners and providers as appropriate) the support they intend to of…

I wonder if someone could help me? We are planning to have an out of school club at the school where I work from 3-5.30. This will be in the school hall and will include children from 4-11. On some days it may also include children from the pre-school (3 years and up). I'm unsure about the qualifications staff need. Looking at the statutory guidance it seems to say that if EYFS children are included there needs to be a Level 3 member of staff and a 1:8 ratio. There will be teachers on site (in rooms off the hall), so does this still apply? Or could you have Level 2 staff with teachers on hand? Any advice much appreciated!

Can all u clever people please help me! We have had a new lad start with us! As expected our group dynamics have changed as he is in a group of children in the upper half of primary school! Right from the outset I knew he would be a challenge to settle as his dad removed him from his previous setting with no notice! I no in the long term we can ride this Out and get the group to settle back down! At the moment our other kids are ganging up on him! And in effect telling us things that wouldn't normally annoy them! How do I find a compromise between them (explaining that they have to give him time to adjust to us and he may get angry) and him (taking his needs in…

Out Of School Club Supervision
by Guest- 1 reply

Hi, Would anyone know what level of supervision must you have for children over the age of 8 years. In an old Ofsted Regulation book dated 2001 children had to be within sight or hearing distance of a member of staff. I do not seem to be able to find any updated information on this since the new registers came out. As we are a Nursery as well as an out of school club we are on 3 of the registers. Having asked Ofsted they say supervision for this age group is what we make it.? Just thought if anyone knows of any documents that would give clear indication of the supervision levels. Thanks

Seeing as the new EYFS framework now states Wrap around and holiday providers 1.3 Wrap around3 and holiday providers4 should be guided by, but do not necessarily need to meet, all the learning and development requirements. Practitioners should discuss with parents and/or carers (and other practitioners and providers as appropriate) the support they intend to offer, seeking to complement learning in settings in which children spend more time. Just wondered if you are going to change your practice in anyway. Im thinking of making it more informal ie scrapbook, with photos, concentrate on PSE, few post it obs, work with EYFS TA at school. Staff at club do seem to k…

Oosc - Under Governors And School
by Guest- 6 replies

Lots of questions today as I start my new job after the holidays and I contemplating things that will need doing for school taking on club by Sept! Those of you under the school... Do your policies follow some of the schools own policies ie behaviour, safeguarding, complaints, disciplinary.grievance? Who signs your policies? Manager, governors or head? Do you use school risk assessments instead of your own? Do you follow the school food trust guidelines for snack? Is there anything else that you think is different because you are under the school and not registered separately? Thanks for any info/advice

Is She Qualified?
by Guest- 5 replies

Hi, I am hoping someone can help me. I have been interviewing for a staff member for an after school club working with 4-11 year olds. One interviewee has a 1999 NNEB ( cache diploma in nursery nursing) and says that the qualification enables her to work with children aged 0-11years. Is this correct? I thought it would only qualify someone up to age 5 or 8 years. I need to employ someone who has a full level 3 qualification as she will be acting in my absence. Unfortunately, the CWDC qualifications framework is not available until April and I need to make a decision ASAP. Thanks for your help Caroline
