Are Your Numbers Dropping
by Guest- 3 replies

How full is your Care Club and have you noticed a drop in numbers this year? I have spoken to a couple of out of school provides, one said her numbers had dropped and the other said they were the same as last year? Any tips on getting numbers up or are you all in the same boat with numbers falling? Thanks

Sef For Out Of School Club
by Guest- 4 replies

I am just setting up an out of school club. I already run a Day Nursery and have to do a SEF for that for Ofsted. I am presuming that you have to do the same for an out of school Club. As the children range from 3.5 to 11 and it will operate a wrap around service, I am presuming that all the normal EYFS standards apply and that we have to observe and feedback to the Nursery/Reception teachers? Any advice welcomed - thank you

hi... i have been approached by two of my staff requesting the opportunity to run holiday playschemes in the pre-school building. I am not against this...both of them are experienced and will run it the way that i would expect but i am unsure as to the best way forward with how to set it up....would it be better to have it as a 'sub branch'of the pre-school or to set it up as a completely new entity? does anyone have any experience of something similar and can give me some ideas of a way forward.I have suggested that they do a survey and start to complete a business plan for me...but now wondering about how we organise wages etc etc

Bit of background for you first so you don't think I'm a complete numpty... (though I've been here on and off for years so you may know that actually I am one!) Been in Early Years for 25 years now. Ran a pre-school from 2004-6 when I left to work for a charity doing outreach work and training. The funding for my original post ended and I continued to do bits and bobs for the charity as well as childminding with my husband and some assessing for an accreditation scheme. Since I left the pre-school, they have had no end of trouble recruiting and keeping a manager, not helped by one particularly awful committee chair who took over everybody's roles, decided to employ her…

by Guest- 5 replies

Hi Well some of you know Im in the stages of looking at taking over our committee run out of school club (pending rest of committee, parent, head approval now). Have done my forecasts to get a fee structure. Current fees are 2.20 (am), 6.25 (pm), 17.00 (holiday). LEA man said we are too cheap(in fact we are one of the cheapest in the whole of the authority)and having looked at all clubs in the area the average is 4.90 (am), 8.50 (pm), 24.00 (holiday). To ensure club cover costs, a wage for myself, current staff, all NI, tax, my own tax, NI on the profit and to come out with just £2k profit to put back into business after the first year the costs I have worked o…

Accounts

Hi I know another question! How long does it take for you to do your accounts and wages? Have been given info about software to do wages (currently have a company do them). Do you use your own spreadsheet for accounts? Is it just a case of keeping receipts, taking off the balance etc etc? Do you have a business account? Is it expensive to use? Any info appreciated! I can see I am going to have to come clean and ask our treasurer to see if the systems we currently use for accounts would be ok to use. Thanks

Bookings

Hi Still getting info about poss taking over a school club....just wondered how others do their bookings. We currently do them monthly so that parents have flexibility ie for shift workers but this has been a huge issue in the past when sessions have had to be refused as too many wanted the same session. Do you do them monthly with children having the sessions the same set sessions and then invoice? How do you invoice? Have you got an example of how you work all this out? Doyou ask parents to give you a months notice should they want to leave or change sessions? Shift workers would then have to book sessions if they were available. Do you think this is fair?…

Hi all I currently manage extended school provision on a school site from 11.30 to 6pm. I have a lunch club, private nursery and after school club. Now my Head has suggested that I take breakfast club under my wing. It is run on rather an adhoc basis currently but the kitchen is due to close temporarily and so change is necessary! A couple of questions in case anyone can help me- Do breakfast club staff need to be qualified staff? Can u give me an idea of rates of pay for staff? Are ratios the same as after school club? Ie 1:8 What do you charge your parents? Thank you in anticipation for your thoughts! If there's anything else u t…
