So for the last year we have been using our forest school more and more since it is much safer to be outside with the children currently. The children are loving using our amazing forest on site however as with everything it needs some TLC. We are a local nursery for 2-4 year old's and from what i can see there isn't really any funding out there for Nurseries. A teacher in school pointed me towards https://www.ltl.org.uk/nature-grant/ however this is only for ages 5+ and for schools. Does anyone know of anywhere that is offering grants or resources for nurseries?

Have you listened to the podcast with did with Greg Bottrill about the magic of living a story and the wonder of the outdoors? Another great listen if you're interested in exploring more about outdoor learning is our podcast with story teller and nature connection facilitator Chris Holland, who reflects on how connecting with nature can support learning. Enjoy!

I would like to buy a fire pit for pre-school since we can no longer visit our forest school site. Does anyone have any recommendations? something with a guard rail would be good and not too low to the ground so that i don't burn the grass.!!

We can understand why parents feel uneasy about 'risky play' because without them personally available to 'supervise' anything could happen. I know that when we show prospective families around our nursery we tell parents that their children will get dirty, will bump and scrape themselves and we explain that 'unless children find out for themselves that they can't run their fastest uphill on wet grass carrying toys then they will not learn to take care of themselves' . This 'learning to manage your own risk' is key to healthy independence and one which is discussed in this article from Michaela Machan. You may not be familiar with the blogs written by Teacher Tom, a …

This thread, by member ParkerD, is in conjunction with her book review found here. "Creating high quality outdoor provision in the early years is something every setting strives for. However, beliefs about what is needed to create high quality outdoor provision, in terms of resources and the adult role can vary greatly depending upon the setting. I wonder, if there is a need for a shared set of values which could be used as a starting point by all early years settings when developing their outdoor provision? In 2004, a set of shared ‘Visions and Values’ for outdoor play were developed by a team of early years experts and Learning through Landscapes, the UK’s …

Hello I'm doing my dissertation on teachers perceptions of outdoor play in the U.K. I'm interested in knowing teachers opinions on children's outdoor play opportunities and how teachers help facilitate children's play in the outdoors. I'm really struggling to find participants for my dissertation. I was wondering if anyone in the forum knows of any primary school teacher who would be willing to do a short skype interview with me. If anyone's interested in taking part I can email you a consent form and more information about the project. All participants in the study will be anonymized and the data will be stored in accordance with the 1988 Data Protection Act.

Hi I'm doing my dissertation on parents and teachers perception on forest schools. In my literature review I'm going to talk about how the idea of forest school came about and how its different from the Danish Model. I'm thinking of going into schools in the U.K (bristol) and conducting interviews with parents and teachers and gets their thoughts about forest schools and the benefits they have for children? I'm struggling with getting literature. Can anyone recommends books/articles I should look at for provisions of outdoor play and forest schools? Also probably a long shot but if anyone can get me in touch with schools in the U.K where parents and teacher…

He we are planning a huge revamp of outside, garden, playground, green space. We want to incorporate a focus on nature, growing and looking after our environment. I just do not know where to start?!? Are there companies who would transform a space, what could we do to make it sustainable? Any ideas would be gratefully received.

When doing a recent Forest School taster I was amazed at a simple yet effective way to wash your hands outside. I remember my days of being a Girl Guide and using a bowl of filthy soapy water that everyone else had already washed their hands in - yuk! I am sure all of you wonderful practitioners out there will say - "seen that, done it, got the t-shirt" but I thought it ingenious. If anyone tries it let me know how you get on with it.How to provide running water to wash hands outdoors without the need for a tap.docx
