Hi I'm thinking of making a water wall in my setting, I just wondered if there were any top tips from people who already have one in their setting? We hope to attach it to one of the fence panels. Is there a way to create one where children can attach and reattach vessels (Ive seen loads of permanent ones with cable tie)? Any ideas and suggestions welcomed. Thanks ForestFlo xx

Sleeping outdoors

Just wondered if anyone has made provision for babies and young children to sleep outdoors throughout the year. What considerations needed to be put in place before this was able to go ahead? And what challenges ( if any) did you meet along the way? How were you able to persuade practitioners and parents about the benefits of this practice? Did you look abroad to give you inspiration? I'd also be interested to hear from anyone who has a view or experience around this topic.

Hi Hope I'm allowed to post this...I am an education ranger for kent county council and have been running forest school sessions for the last 6 years. We have now embarked on delivering level 1 and 2 accredited forest school awards They are not the leader award but are nationally recognised awards. Here is the web link: http://cpdschools.kenttrustweb.org.uk/cpd/content_detail.asp?contentid=679 Also, we're running throughout Kent now so if anyone has any questions for us, we're more than happy to answer them! Outdoor Nursery Garden Ideas

Hi everyone, We are lucky enough to have quite a large outdoor space at our Nursery. We have a surfaced area which includes a road for bikes and a large climbing apparatus. We are going to develop the Nursery garden however, which consists of a huge lawn on a slope. We have a giant tree in the corner which the children love and one tractor tyre that is sunk in the ground. I was wondering if anyone knows of where to start looking for ideas? Thanks! x

We are a pre school setting, opening 5 mornings a week in a school hall. We have our own garden and use of a school field with natural areas. My problem is with parents. We have recently been playing in an enormous puddle on the field after heavy rain. Obviously our children have been soaking wet. This shouldn't be a problem as we ask all children to be provided with spare clothes and most do.For the others we have plenty of spares in our owen store. But there have been mutterings from several parents. Then today we had a letter from one parent saying that although she didn't mind her daughter getting wet and muddy in puddles she "feels it is excessive for the chi…

I would very much like to experience a Forest school in a scandinavian setting. Possibly training too? Does anyone know who I could contact regarding this? I have tried contacting insideoutnature.com but no reply. Would be grateful for any suggestions. Jam

Hello everyone I wondered if anyone has visited Pen Green Family Centre? I am thinking about booking a visit later in the spring for all my staff. This would mean closing the nursery for the day. It is quite a financial commitment as we will lose a day's fees, plus the visits are £100 per person plus VAT. I really would like everyone to go, but am wondering if it is worth the money? If you have been, did you find it worthwhile, helpful, inspiring? Did you come away with new ideas? Would you recommend it? Thanks in advance Beehive

Hi All We are are new build preschool who had softplay fitted in our garden area. Over the last few months, we have had a lot of incidents with children and staff slipping on the softplay surface? I'm keen to hear from other settings who have softplay as to whether they have had similar problems and also how they maintain the surface as we are getting differing opinions on the right way to care for the softplay? Really would appreciate feedback on your experiances with softplay in your schools, thanks for your time. Thank you Lisa

Outdoor Play Help!
by Guest- 4 replies

Hi everyone, We have an outdoor space with nursery and reception. Both freeflow at the same time as Nursery only have 2 staff for 26 ch'd so they have 1 in and 1 out . Outside 1 adult supports play and the other leads active play activities. We have all areas for provision and no matter what exciting activites we have on offer all the boys seem to want to do is run about in roleplay. Unfortunately our space isnt big enough for that type of active play-we use bigger spaces for physical activity during the week. I am now trying crack down on them but at the same time I feel that they need this release. Does anyone else have this issue? Any ideas, suggestions please! …
