Hi all, Should we be truthful with our children about family arguements, who likes who, who thinks what about who... My little boy (5.5) came out with a statement tonight regarding a disagreement between 2 close family members - I and as far as I know my husband has not told him about this arguement so I know who he got it from. I was initially shocked that this person would tell him about her feelings towards the other family member. But after thinking about it, maybe he should know that family disagreements happen, not everyone gets on etc. I was brought up knowing that there was ill-feeling around but never quite knowing/understanding why and I don't think has done m…

Today I was reading the back of a bottle of acetone (to remove nail vanish) and when I saw EYES in block capitals I immediately thought "what does this have to do with the EYFS?"! Perhaps it was the fumes!

Chicken pox peace & quiet

Today I ended up with only one child in my nursery after sending 4 home today including a staff member with chicken pox. The first one didn't even get through the door, the next one started to have them popping out during the morning so off he went. At 2.00pm I had to send a staff member home and at 3.00pm we were laughing about how easy it was with only two children as I headed to the toilet with one of them. Once there I spotted (sorry for the pun) a spot on his thigh and then checked him over to find many more. Yesterday we sent 3 home and the day before 2. On top of that there are all the children who are already off with it. I have never never known it for some …

50 things to do before you are 50 1 2

Inspired by HappyMaz's blog I decided to think about 50 things I want to do before I am 50 next year. Seeing the Northern Lights is top of my list as well as going around the wild west in a winnebago. I did my first thing today - after a lifetime of long dark blond hair I have gone auburn and I love it. Divorce papers for my husband though who failed to notice it!! Typical. I wondered what ideas others heading rapidly toward 50 would have for their list.

last night I was told some very sad news about a friend daughter who died from suicide - a clever funny girl who baby sat my children when they were younger - my children and i cried together and lit a candle and after a sleepless night still cannot stop thinking about her and the family - I want to go round but something stops me - is it too soon , will i be of any help , would there be anything i could do to ease the pain which frankly, no there would not be. but i do want her to know we are all here to support in whatever way we can as a mother it is so hard to comprehend losing a child and maybe even more so when your child has chosen to take their own life - may s…

Not really a question just wandering what people are feeling! Following the headlines in the last few days about qualifications/ratios etc i am feeling rather irritated. The problem that i am having is that there seems to be a divide. Many of us started in this job as Mum's first and have picked up qualifications along the way (although i still dont have a degree ) Do we want our industry to be seen as professional and led by people with qualifications or do we want to be seen as people who might not be very bright but are good at entertaining children. I have just been watching bbc news this morning who ...on commenting about the journalist who looked afte…
