I am sure many have seen this before but a reminder never hurts.... When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 Hours in a day is not enough -- Remember ... The mayonnaise jar and 2 cups of coffee. The story goes... A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students, "Is the jar full?" They agreed it was. The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the op…

This is not a worry question as such - hence me putting it in the Lounge. I'm just intrigued as to what others would/have said. Yesterday (and I can't remember why) I used the phrase "My mummy..." It was met with "You don't have a mummy!" and when I said "Yes I do!" the response was "No you don't, teachers don't have mummies!" I've quite often had the 'you don't have a mummy' comment before - my mum sometimes comes in to help and last year when she was in we didn't announce her name. One little boy asked her and then ran to me with an incredulous "Miss D! It's Mrs D!" he thought it was hilariously funny that we had the same name. However, I've never had it…

had a day off , not just physically but mentally from preschool - it felt good , sadly i was greeted this morning with my best friend very distraught so calmed her down and offered tea, sympathy and hopefully some light at the end of the tunnel ,then went off to surprise my mum with a visit only to find her very poorly - knew i had to go today - sixth sense - but it was good to be there for others and talk about something other than work ( tho it may have crept in the conversation just a little ) feeling refreshed and glad my staff felt i trusted them - i did not even send a text !! My first day off (apart from a funeral) in nearly a year - mmmm think I may just make …

Hi all! As some of you might be aware, I've just accepted a job as a senior practitioner and EYP at a private day nursery. The setting has a great outdoor area, complete with chickens and lots of veggies etc, so naturally, the children love being outside. I can't say that outdoor play is my favourite thing to do during the winter so I was looking for a new coat that would keep me nice and toasty. I obviously need a waterproof but my current one is basically just a little mac, there's no warmth other than it's that horrible waterproof fabric that makes you sweat profusely (tmi? sorry!) I was looking for something like a North Face one but without the £200+ pric…

I googled EYDCP for Birmingham in the vain hope it would lead me to something with info. Some LAs have wonderful sites, full of valid and relevant information for practitioners, tip, templates, advice, forums all sorts of stuff. The link I followed took me to this. http://www.birminghamchildcare.co.uk/ I particularly like the article on the glass stand

How's the rain for everyone? The news shows it being bad for a couple of days yet. I've even gone shopping today wearing my pink flowered wellies and son's massive kagoul. As you can imagine, I looked very elegant. Now I'm off into the garden to clean and dry the ferrets pen. I might take a whistle!
