One of our parents has just brought her 15 month old daughter in for the afternoon session with her lunch. Lunch consisted of a full portion of fish and chips from the chippy round the corner - still in the paper and everything!!!!! What chance do these children have??

I need to have a bit of a rant about my children's school situation and maybe someone would give me a little help to say something positive. A private school in our LA announced last week that they would be joining with a LA primary to become an Academy next year. This has resulted in my children's small school losing lots of children - six from my year five boy's class on top of the three who went to another private school at the end of last school year. It has been very unsettling for all concerned, and I am feeling quite resentful toward the parents who are causing all this uproar. Can I have a rant....Committee have decided to run a 'Pre-School' session for those children off to school next Sept on an afternoon, now thats not so bad in theory, quite a few mums have signed up to this although we have lost voucherable children from other sessions. BUT they have also staffed it with a couple of comittee members who are primary teachers and I know they are using worksheets with the children one of my staff is in working with them ( and should know better!) and said they dont make the children do them, but its what the parents want. Is anyone going to any of these events run by 4children early years team? I was hoping to get to the Taunton one but I cant go now so I'm taking a leap into the unknown and going to the London one..London is well out of my comfort zone! Shame there isn't one in Birmingham. I am really shocked and quite angry after my daughter has just told me something that her old teacher used to say!!!!! I can't believe that any teacher would tell a class of 9 and 10 year olds "NEVER look at Wikipedia - it's written by the devil" This isn't the first thing I've heard that makes me think - thank goodness she's not at our school anymore! sadly she's teaching at another local school....
