I don't know what mix of children yet but know I have some in eyfs as the deputy is trying to get me on a course tomorrow about the new framework! Yay! So happy. For those who know me, well I've been in y5/6 since I came back from maternity leave last Easter so I'm thrilled! Watch this space as I may not be so thrilled when I find out which kids and TAs!

We have a lot of boys in our group at the moment and we are experiencing very rough play. It has come to our notice through talking to them that they are watching or in some instances playing these 18 certificate x-box games. Have any other settings come across this and how did you deal with it? We were thinking about sending a blanket letter to every family saying that the children are copying actions seen on these games and also putting the age guidelines on it. Is this going too far, what does everyone else think? It is driving us potty at the minute. We have even had our local vicar talk about soldier vicars who look after other soldiers, We have had a lady corporal…

We have acquired a lovely old woodwork bench for the children and need to source some wood. Max tells me she buys balsa wood on ebay so I had a look, but am not sure what to buy......................any ideas please?? I have also asked one of our parents whose husband is a carpenter if we can have some offcuts, which she says shouldn't be a problem, but I wonder if Balsa is easier for the children to work with, since it is softer and easier to cut? Also, I'm sure someone posted that they had found child-sized safety goggles.............................any idea who it was, or where they found them?? I DID order a pack of balsa from the consortium, but it was absolute rubbi…

Very, very windy here today...... We were all in our outdoor area .........when we heard a creaking, groaning sound - my deputy realised what was happening first........a huge Silver Birch tree was falling in the garden next door ........first thought was 'oh no the children missed it' second thought 'it missed the children' ....... Seriously - if it had fallen in a different direction it could have crashed through the fence and landed on us! Phew! Edit - because I used the wrong 'through'/'threw'!!!

Ok, a new challenge for you! One of my grandchildren has a birthday coming up and a 'Knight' theme has been decided upon. They would like to buy/borrow or hire a 'tournament' tent, but it has to be big enough for about 30 people ( I think they are mad!)..........i've scoured the pages of ebay etc, but can't find anything at a family-friendly price................ideas please??

Yesterday I Cried..lots, Today Was Better.

Yesterday I wanted to speak to one of our mums who is going through a rough time trying to stop her husband get custody of her children after he violently abused her. I took her into the office and she broke down saying that she was going to leave the area but let her husband have the boys (aged 8,severely autistic and aged 4). She said that she had had enough, couldn't go on and intimated taking her own life. She was crying and so was I. After she had calmed down she went home and I ended up making a 'what if' phone call. After half an hour on the phone with a senior social worker I knew that I had to make a referrall, I cried again. One of her neighbours who is also the…

I have today just received an i-pad (at school). It's the first one in the building and little me in reception gets to use it! Initially it's to be used as a 'teacher tool' and my head gave it to me as he thought it would help with evidence collection among other things. I am really excited but today is the first time I've ever even touched one! I don't want to take the protective plastic off in case in case it gets finger prints on! Any hints where to start?! What EY 'management'/teaching stuff do you use one for? What can I do with it?!
