Hi I am after picking someone's brains about the cost involved with keeping/insuring horses and I am sure someone on here will know!! My youngest daughter (13yrs) has been riding/working at our local stables for 18 months and really loves working with the horses. She has been loaning Wallace over the holidays and the yard are putting him up for sale. Now I have plenty of experience with looking after dogs but think a horse could be a whole new ball game!! The yard would like £1500 for him and £500 for his tack, then £30 a week for living out, he is a 7 yr old skewbald cob cross (a bitzer!!). Does anyone know cost for insurance etc and I'm sure there's more involved!! An…

Found myself in a gail this morning in the garden playing a robot game with the children. MY assistant and myself (who happens to be my daughter ...very silly when together) were walking round the garden in a robot like manner, the children were throwing bean bags at our legs...if they hit then we stopped if they missed we carried on. I came in at the end of the sessions (rather windswept) and asked the staff whether they thought all pre-schools were as mad as us...only to walk through and find my new assistant with several eye stickers plastered all over her face...i think she's settled in don't you? So my question is are you all as potty as this or is it just us?????

Dear all I know this is a serious, professional forum for intellectual academic types but just had to say Yipppeee Strictly starts tomorrow......glitter balls and sequins and feathers and professional male dancers showing just enough flesh for a Saturday teatime Cannot imagine Russell Grant dancing at all but happy to be proved wrong.....think Lulu should be quite good......stopped reading Robbie Savages tweets as he wasn't very nice so will be interesting to see how he comes across......will there be another Ann Widdicombe/John Sargent debacle like the last 2 years...... but most of all can't wait to listen to Len Goodman....love him and his pickled walnuts …

Secret Friends
by Guest- 4 replies

Some years ago I worked in a school which had a 'secret friends' ... activity/scheme (not sure what to call it!). It worked like this ... all staff put their names (in an envelope) into a hat and then each took an envelope and kept their colleague's name secret. Over the year they would do 'nice' things for their secret friend e.g. a box of chocolates, a bottle of wine or just a little card to say 'something nice'; they might bake them a cake, or bring them produce from the garden - anything that would be appreciated or make their secret friend smile! This would not be 'openly' given but labelled and placed somewhere the 'friend' would find it. At Christmas, the identi…

Have just returned from my little boy's nativity play. I've been in floods of tears as the little girl who said not one word in Nursery, the odd, very very quiet words in Reception, started to chat a bit in Class one .... was Mary....and sang a SOLO!!! Very, very quietly, but she stood up in front of 180 people sang. Anyone who knows her - blubbing like babies. Merry Christmas, Honey

Well having only changed my duvet from the summer one to the winter one this last weekend I cannot believe how suddenly winter seems to have appeared here in the south east, it really has been pretty mild until the weekend. Looking at the weather reports though some of you are having full on winter....Cumbria and the surrounding northern areas seem to be receiving a dusting or 2. I hope you are all keeping warm and safe and that the weather isn't causing you too many problems so far. I don't like snow much myself especially if I have to get anywhere but always enjoy how pretty it looks, it certainly makes for a brilliant backdrop for photos.....I liked this one o…
