Although it is the holidays lots of younger children will still be accessing EYFS provision .... as someone with riots at the end of my road (fortunately I was away) it struck me that ths is quite a scary event forchildren in the areas affected. life is not quite as normal. Anyone been dealing with this or considering what they might need to be talking about when children return? Cx

hows everyone in term-time only provision feeling about going back tomorrow (or if you've already gone back today)? I'm really looking forward to going to see the children and parents again after so long, I've missed them (though its gone in a flash) but am also sad as I decided over the summer to apply for my pgce for next year and so will be telling my colleagues that I'm leaving (even though it's not for ages yet!). The leader and two chairs already know and have been extremely supportive and positive as they know it makes sense for me personally but I so love working where I do...although I can't complain too much as I feel lucky to have found such a special place a…

Just wanted to share that Atlantic Data have a contract with the DfE and all early years CRB's for new staff will now be free through them. Existing staff renewal is I think £44. http://www.disclosurescrb.co.uk/earlyyears/index.html Everything about the crb is handled online and they have a 7 to 10 day turnaround. Sorry if this is old news, but I was so pleased

This is way off topic but I have a personal issue in my family that I am sure the wise people on here may have opinions on. This is the situation - Divorced parents, Mother diagnosed bi-polar and often hospitalised. Father has demanding, high level job which makes him unable to have full custody of the children for six months of the year. Children about to go to high school and local schools shocking (I went to one). Daughter aged 12 (go to high school later in this country), diagnosed dyslexic and not achieving well and wants to be a hairdresser. She has had some diagnoses of depression and anxiety. Son aged 11 - very sporty and taking risks. Not achieving at t…

Babies

Hi Everyone, I have another question...sorry, thats all I seem to be doing at the moment! I am putting the finishing touches to the baby suite with the builders and provider tomorrow. Essentially we have a three roomed interconnected (by arches) baby suite, with an enclosed kitchenette and cot room, which can take 9 cots. There is room for another cot room, I just want ask how many cots you think is feasable for a 27 baby suite. There will be other sleeping options within the suite, such as sleep pops within the rooms etc. Would 18 cots seem right. I don't really like the idea of cot rooms and have seen some awful examples. Our cot rooms do not have solid do…

Booking Places

Hi Everyone, It's the second week of my new post as nursery manager for a new nursery. Had a really productive day today, just want to clarify a discussion about 'parents booking places'. The nursery isn't open until at least November so its very refreshing ironing out all the detail now and formulating our policies etc. I stated that due to admissions policy and equality policy that it would go against the grain of fairness to allow parents to book a place in advance (talking a few months in advance) am I right in stating this, that places are given on a first come first serve basis. The exception being if parent already has a child in setting (the sibling thing)…
