The ethos at my Pre-School which I instill daily is ...... process over outcome In the moment planning Skills based - ie: not everyone has to make an Elmer, they can make whatever they want as long as we are practising the taught skill. The problem is that everyone seems to subscribe when i'm there but when I am not which is during the holidays (as a teacher I only work term time) everyone reverts back to their default setting....colouring in, everyone making an Elmer by colouring in the blanks, templates etc. How to I address this? I have an inset day and would like to focus on this with maybe an activity or something but cannot think how would be best to approach i…

This is a really interesting article from the BBC. In our work we see lots of mums that have just given birth and I thought that knowing about this frightening condition might help us to support them better. Birth trauma: Women urged to 'raise your voices'

Hello, long time no post but I could do with some words of wisdom/advice. Back story- I am a qualified nursery nurse, worked in many settings from 1999. I did a degree in fine art in 2002 with a view to doing teacher training.I got a TA job in a school and rose up to working as an unqualified teacher, did GCSE maths at Adult education classes and upgraded my E to a D. Did a maths equivalency test and got 5% off the pass mark. Left it for a while while I raised my family. I went back to working in a school as a TA, I have recently qualified as a Forest School Leader and this is what i will be doing in September. However, I feel I really need to swallow this frog and…

I was in Poundland the other day and found some 'superhero' outfits...............in the wedding part of the shop, so I guess they could be stag night items?...........any,I digress. They are BRILLIANT!! The mask ( covers the eyes)..........is very sturdy felt and the cape ( blue) is double thickness, silky fabric. They fit our 4 year olds really well and I had a couple of 7 year olds in who fell in love with them too. They are in small, folded up clear packets,so blink and you might miss them on the shelf. I bought lots of them so we can have a 'create your own superhero ' session, sticking on whatever they like Back in there today and they have reduced loads of thei…

You know you work in early years when...... * You spend 5 minutes flattening out and saving the shiny toffee wrappers instead of putting them in the bin. (Just done this) * Your partner brings home welding wire cable drums from his work because he thought you might need it for Pre-School. Come on, let's hear your thoughts!

Can you use a kindle fire for Tapestry without internet at the setting? If so are they easy to use? I think if you can I, might actually bite the bullet and go for it for September. We currently do not have internet at setting - but thinking in the near future getting a mobile thingy. :1b

Hi, just looking for a bit of information/help really. after many, many years as Lead Practitioner/manager of a preschool setting (2-4 yr olds) I have finally had enough of the paperwork, staffing problems etc and have decided to move onto somewhere where I can actually play with the children. a local nursery has a vacancy for a senior practitioner of under 2s room and have asked me to come along for a chat next week. i haven't really worked with under 2's other than my grand daughters (aged 4 and 7) who i looked after during the school holidays so is there anyone on here who can tell me what the role involves etc., am really thinking this might be the way to go as ju…
