I haven't been on here much for a while but as I replied to posts today I realised that I had reached 1000 posts. Didn't think that I would ever do it. Mary

Sorry just got to let off steam- I am finding these new hours a real struggle. I know many people prefer them but at the start of term I am already feeling tired, uninspired and at a loss as how to manage the best way forward for both children and staff. We do the 2.5 day option and find that lots of children are finding it difficult to cope with the long day let alone the huge gap in between one week to the next. I am sure it is a 'give it time' situation but that doesn't help now when I am tearing my hair out. We are asking some parents to only bring their child for the half session or collect after lunch as the poor things are getting so tired or throwing hissy fits …

I have had a mailshot from a company called maxbro, who say they can access grants through the 'Grant Making committee', of up to £5,000. Nice if it works, but has anyone else had any dealings with them, and does it work??Did you get a grant?

I feel so dishearted and I am ready to pack it all in I get little recgontion at work for the time and effort I put in both in and out fo work and still I get the committee complaining about petty stuff that they have no understanding of what so ever I wanted to give the children a chance to settle in and get to know the staff before allocating key workers. No this isn't good enough for them and they have pushed me into quickly dishing them out. We had no chance to chat and see who had built up better relationships with who etc I sent out a a4 sheet with 6 questions on to involve parents in planning, fantastic I thought, only one goes and states that her chil…

When And How Do I Tell The Children?

Hello lovely people, I can't believe how quickly the time has gone since I posted my original I'm pregnant thread! I'm starting my Maternity leave next Friday but haven't yet told the Nursery children (although signs have been up informing the parents). Unfortunately there has been a 'hiccup' in getting a replacement for me - as yet one doesn't exist and I had intended to wait until "person x" was employed and then I could say to the children that I was going to be at home looking after my new baby but "person x" would be at Nursery every day etc. However, there is now a real (and frankly terrifying) possibility that I won't know who is taking over from me in order to…

Hi, My sister in law is about to give birth and I wanted to get the baby a nice gift. She has all the usual stuff including clothes, bouncers etc. I was going to make a treasure basket but obviously the baby will be too young for a while. Has anyone got any nice ideas thats a bit out of the ordinary? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Vicki

About to start a new job in a brand new setting in a brand new year. Hello to all those that I've 'spoken' to before and all those who have joined in my absence. It's good to be back!

On a similar note to the tea and coffee thread, who do you think should pay for wine and refreshments provided at our AGM? We are a committee run pre-school and traditionally the committee have provided the refreshments for the AGM themselves. Back in my day on the committee, we each brought in a bottle and divided up the purchase of cheese, crackers, grapes etc. This year's outgoing committee have asked if they can be paid back out of funds. Of course, it's up to the committee how they spend the funds but I feel that funding should be spent on things like the children or staff wages. I know the cost of a few bottles of wine would not fund a pay rise but it seems…
