Hi all Can anyone help me? I need to deliver a training session on "Creating festival based activities" for a group of nursery workers. They want new celebrations in which they can learn about rather thatn the usual "Diwali, Hanukkah, etc". I have 2 hrs to fill and don't know where to start as there are so many! Any good and unusual ideas anyone??? Or presentation materials I could beg, steal or borrow?? Thanks in advance, Jitterbugs

You'd think that after 12 years I'd be used to parents making silly comments, but honestly, the mom who said it today is a NN in a surestart centre. She wants her child to come to us once a week, "not because he's badly behaved 'cos he's not, but 'cos I think he'd like it. Just till he starts proper nursery". Go boil your head!!!

Phased Return To Work
by Guest- 4 replies

Having just spent ages on hold to the ACAS helpline I thought I would come here instead. I have just returned to work (a morning only preschool) after 6 months sick leave. I am fully fit and have a 'fit note' with no conditions from the GP dated at the start of the summer holidays. My chairman is insisting on a phased return to work - which I would gladly have accepted back in July - but I don't feel I need it. Is she right or do I have the right to return to full hours on full full pay? We are paid for the actual hours worked, so only doing 3 days instead of 5 is rather detrimental as is the suggestion that as I won't yet be taking a full leader role I should only h…

You know you're a Nursery Nurse when.. You know all the top children TV Shows (Dora the explorer).. You know bob the builder and all his friends. Doing 15+ nappies a day is the norm. You know all nursery rhymes & songs. You have perfected 'the look' when a child missbehaves. You can get 8+ children to sleep within 20minutes. You find yourself saying 'I'm not going to tell you again' then repeating it 5minutes later. Checking your hair for headlice becomes apart of your beauty regime. The word OFSTED sends panic through you. If you don't come home with paint/glue/some form of messy play in your hair or on your clothes, then it ha…

Apologies And I've Returned

Sorry for not replying sooner to updates and questions about learning walls and feelings trees. My subscription had lapsed and I've just returned to 28 pages to catch up on. The passed year has been extremely difficult both work and home wise. I posted last August I was not looking forward to a new working partner and all my worries and much, much more happened. It really felt that 30 years of hard work and good practise has been wiped out and replaced with ...nothing. Consequently my enthusiasm and job satisfaction were zero and I felt invisable. I did not renew when my subscription lapse as I had no need of new ideas as I was not allow to use them and it was flustrating…
