Does anyone have a policy on children's jewellery and what's acceptable and what's not? I know schools do, but we are a private nursery and have had children come in with necklaces, bracelets etc and I'm not too happy about it?. Any advice is appreciated . Thanks in advance.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-39112911 I am pretty angry about this. If he can't see that people 'simply looking' at images shouldn't go to jail, then he probably can't make the link between people supplying photos where there is a perceived audience. In other words, those who view are condoning and supporting this vile trade. yet they shouldn't go to jail? Is this chap going to be in his job for long i wonder?/

I made the mistake of turning on the TV over breakfast and really wished I hadn't. What greeted me was all the headlines of school funding wars. Money per child to be slashed and class sizes to be made bigger and then this really annoying MP had the cheek to sit there and say that part of the problem was that early years had "done quite well" out of funding lately!!!! Well I am not sure what planet he lives on we are the poorest sector, the most underpaid sector and have the least respect in the whole of education! Beyond grumpy now!!!

I just want to share something that a parent, who looked around my setting, emailed me. The parent was torn between my setting and another setting. The comments were lovely and reminded me why I do this job. Does anyone else have comments they would like to share so it makes us all realise what a fabulous job we do. Hi Carol, Thank you for taking the time to show us round on Tuesday. You have a lovely nursery, we were very impressed and you gave us a lovely welcome. Having talked it through with my husband and sister (a reception teacher) and after the point which you very honestly made about continuity and getting to know her peers ready for school, we have d…

My brother in law has bought an old nursery and is making it into his new dental surgery. He doesn't need the tiny toilets - 4 or 5 of them and is offering them free to a forum member if they would collect them. Donation to his favourite dog rescue charity would be appreciated. (Schnauzerfest)

Hello fellow teachers and parents, I am an NQT and I am panicking due to my deputy asking me to starting homework in reception (harsh, right! [we will debate this another time ]). Anyway, she would like it set out as a grid of 8 tasks per half term of which they must complete at least 3 of the tasks. I understand what she would like however, being an NQT, I'm not quite sure what reception 'homework' looks like and was wondering if anybody could provide some examples of what their school does? I genuinely do not want to steal anybody's ideas or work, I just want to know what sort of things you set and how you would go about presenting it. I would go back an ask m…

Our building and a fair amount of our contents were damaged as a result of a leak. If you are with Morton Michel, have you ever had to claim and if so, how did you find the process? We have used them for around 15 years, but this is our first claim.

I must qualify that with apologies to those who don't have a break But for those that do - Happy half-term - as Cait reminded us on another thread - this marks the halfway point in the school year - wow how did that happen? Has anyone got any exciting plans? Of course I have the jolly old TDL - but not too long/bad (unless I go mad and decide to update my SEF most unlikely  ), also have a couple of lunch dates with friends, shopping for all the stationery that I need for the new term, a trip to the hairdresser and I plan to spend some lots of time reading (for pleasure as opposed to work) Enjoy! :1b

Sometimes there is so much going on in early years that the children we care for become numbers, hourly rates and occupancy data. We all came into the profession to care for and educate children - this lovely blog post shows us the effect we have and how much we are appreciated by families all over the country. This nursery does only have women working there - hence the title. However, there are men working in early years making a massive difference to children's lives as well. To the other women raising my child… "When I dropped #3 off at nursery today she was so excited. She got new slippers yesterday (tiger ones) and she couldn’t wait to show her friends, and t…
