One of our children came in today with bits of a new song she has learned on her school visit ( not our local school, otherwise I'd ask the teacher about it!)..............she kept asking us to sing the song, but all she could recall is that the frog sings 'la de da de daaa' in it!!! Not much help, but does anyone have ANY idea what this could be?? she's so enchanting when she sings it.............and she COULD be making it up, but she's insistent that the teacher sang it to her and she's astonished that I don't know it! And no, it's not five little speckled frogs, tried that!!

Okay so I have worked in this school for 12 months almost and I work with Reception and Nursery children. My contract was due to end in Aug 10. There was a maternity leave cover coming up and it came up internally to teach the Reception/yr1/yr2 class (which is a new thing as of next year). So I express my interested and they state that it is to cover a maternity for Reception/Yr1 and Yr2. Meanwhile the lady who is pregnant is ill so someone comes in for five weeks to cover. She tells me this is her first time ever teaching year one / two children and she has never taught Reception all her training in with Year 3,4,5,6. She expresses her interest for reception/Y…

Well I have supposed to have been finishing the last part of my DPP today but have spent most of the day watching the election. It has been realy interesting, talk of coalitions and deals. So it looks like we may have a conservative - lib dem combination. Anybody got any thoughts on what this will mean for early years? I think that both parties suggested a 'slimming down' of EYFS or that it was too prescriptive or did I dream that bit!

I am feeling a little cross at the moment! My daughter is in Year 6 and has SATs this week. At the end of last week she started to come down with a bad cold, had a headache, sore throat and feeling a little dizzy. So on Friday I kept her off and she has spent the weekend recuperating. This morning she said she felt well enough to go in - she is actually quite relaxed about doing the tests and was looking forward to them in a peculiar way! Anyway, an hour ago the school rang to ask me to pick her up as she was feeling sick. I think this is probably just because she has a lot of phlegm at the back of her throat, rather than it being any sort of sickness bug. When I was …

I was looking through some old EYE mgazines last night and I saw this quote from Barbara Hepworth, the sculptor: 'Perhaps what one wants to say is formed in childhood and the rest of one's life is spent in trying to say it.' It got me to thinking it would be great to have a collection of all those great quotes -all the ones about the importance of play and of childhood and the outdoors and parents and, and, and... I know some people have got some great quotes on here anyway as their signature thing when they post. Just wondered what quotes really inspire your practice? Theorists, artists - I'm sure Einstein had some good ones! Think of it as a mini bank …
