Our feeder school reception teacher came to our setting today (for a multi agency meeting) When my staff member opened the door she was joined by twins who always like to greet our visitors..... .......she introduced the visitor to the girls. " this is Miss T she is going to be your teacher at big school" Teacher: " your kidding me, what's wrong with them?!" Speechless! These two delightful girls are currently have specialist teaching support having been born very premature. This reaction just makes me despair. I know this teacher only wants expected or exceeding children in her class but what is going on in our education system that warrants a r…

Hello all, hope you are all good - it seems like ages since I've been in here! Yesterday I received a message from our friend Upsy Daisy, that she has asked me to pass on to you all, which I do with pleasure : "Dear fellow FSFers, My local authority, in its infinite wisdom, has chosen not to renew its subscription this year. I tried to log in today but it seems that our time is up. I will really miss life in EYFSF land. I have still been logging in to check for updates most days and enjoyed being able to comment on threads where I felt I had something useful to share. However I’m in a new role now, on the very fringes of early years provision and I only deal wit…

Staff advent calendar

Have decided not to do Elf on the Shelf this year - last year I did for both children and staff and it got a bit overwhelming/disorganised. I'm on leave for a week before Christmas too, so would have to rely on someone else to do that week. So instead........ I am setting up an advent calendar lucky dip style for the staff. I'm getting one of the children to draw a name out of a hat and then another child to choose a lucky dip present for that person. Only 17 working days before Christmas so it's not cost much, eg fluffy socks for £1 in Primark, body polisher and small shower gel from Poundland, etc. Hoping they will like it!

Hello we have a few children who have wheat intolerance so we cannot use our normal cheap play dough recipe. The problem is that I have been using the Coeliac Society recipe but apart from the first batch I made (great) other batches made in the same way are drying out super quick- sometimes we hardly get a day's use out of it. As this recipe involves more expensive ingredients it is becoming quite an costly process :-( Although the price is not the issue but ensuring that all children have access to something they enjoy. I am considering using plasticine (although this can get very hard) and we do use clay. Does anyone use gluten free and have you any advice to…

If I don't start this Sunnyday will probably give me instructions to soon. Candles are lit, I just took these out of the oven: As you can see tea is also mashing - you're welcome to join me. So did anyone watch/enjoy? I did and liked seeing more 'normal' cakes. I think I may have to make Jaffa cakes soon. I watched the Chronicles of Nadiya afterwards too and that was really interesting - Nadiya seems lovely and I think I probably need to go to her house for tea! ?

Hello all, I'm looking for ideas and inspiration and possible stockists... My niece is 4 1/2 and very interested in all things around her - recent questions have included 'Why do my knees go up and down but the wheels go round and round?' (when riding her bike) and 'What is the sun made of?' So... My sister asked if I knew of a child friendly website they could use to help explain things in a way she (my niece!) could understand. The other thing is that she wants to be an inventor when she grows up and I was thinking of giving her an inventing kit for Christmas. I'm looking for ideas to include in it. My first thoughts include some things like plastic tubin…
