I went to the PLA AGM last night. I didnt know this, had no need to really, but the Graduate leader fund is only available to full day care settings, not sessional (here in Birmingham at least). Not sure if this is a new decision though because I think our leader got money for something from somewhere. A very discriminatory decision I think. Birmingham 'bookstart' has decided to only deliver the treasure chests to maintained and full day care settings now due to the council reducing their funding by two thirds. Playgroups will have to tell their parents to collect their own from the library. When I asked why playgroups had been singled out she said we had less 3&…

Continuous Provision

Hi guys, this might seem a really obvious answer, but i'm really struggling to get my head around something, and i am hoping you guys with all your wealth of experience and knowledge can help me out. This half term, Ive had all the usual continuous provision out for the chn, water, sand wet and dry, small world, construction etc....but it has stayed very much the same. Every week am i meant to change it? For example the water area, i have out everything on the shelves for chn to access independently, as and when they want to explore it, rather than me putting out certain equipment. These are natural materials (shells, stones, sponges etc) floating and sinking equipm…

I have no voice, can only whisper. I don't have a sore throat but did a couple of days ago but only lasted a day. Started going croaky last night and today very difficult to get a sound out unless I whisper. Anyone got any good tips for getting it back? Good thing I'm on half term at the moment but ever so annoying. ppp

Appeal Date

Hi all, Apologies for my lack of input on her recently but i guess since loosing my job my enthusiasm for certain things has dwindlled. Anyhow, i now have a date for an appeal at the nursery over my dismissal. Next wednesday. The appeal is being heard by the two directors who do not work in the nursery (but who are married to the two directors that made the decision to dismiss me). In their letter they assured me that the directors would be inpartial.... how much do i not believe that I am really confused myself right now and wonder what an appeal will actually achieve. In my letter to them i explained that: 1) they had breeched their own policies a…

i realise it is probably a bit late for this year - but a thought for next year for those who make home visits . are you covered by the insurance in your place of work to go on these visits? we have found that our insurance only covered us for on site and had to amend the insurance to cover staff going on home visits.
