Hi all I have a terrible dilemma. I have been hiring a hall for my pre-school for 18 months and it has come to light from the landlords the hall does not have the correct usage. The usage has been changed previously and I was advised it was just a letter to the planning dept. I have been waiting for confirmation that the issue has been dealt with, however I have received a letter wit 3 weeks left until the end of term, asking us to vacate the premises!!! I have over 30 children on the books for September and employ 10 staff! To say I am devastated and heartbroken is an understatement. There are no other local venues we can use as they are all taken. I have req…

For more than 10 years we have been supporting transition to our local school by sending a member of staff up with the children on their transition day...until today...was told in no uncertain terms that they are not doing it the same way and therefore I am NOT required. Now apart from the fact that I would have liked a heads up on this I have spent many hours with my families and tell them that I support transition which I am now unable to do....it makes everyone look stupid and I am having trouble keeping my tongue in my mouth and not blurting out the issues that the school is currently having ......(Very long story !) They are also doing a 2 week part time entry in …

Hello all, Not strictly an Early Years question but does anyone know what the thresholds are for persistent absence in schools are? I know I should know but can't remember and I have googled but it's clearly one of those things you need to use the exact words for and I'm not. I'm going to a meeting on Thursday and we'll be looking at attendance amongst other things. I've been sent some figures for absences for particular children and know they are all below the threshold (or I wouldn't have the figures) but am trying to figure out how significantly below if that makes any sense. Thank you!

If you're enjoying solstice celebrations tonight at Stonehenge, do enjoy, especially as we have the first summer solstice/full moon since 1967.. I shall be looking up when the 'strawberry' moon rises, hoping for a clear sky, but I'll not be at Stonehenge this year...maybe next year.

My husband recently found online an invitation to apply to become an Ofsted Inspector. On examination there didn't seem to be anything to disqualify me from applying, and the money was VERY good. So that Sunday night I whipped off a hurried application. This was some time ago and I'd assumed I'd been filtered out. Well, that much is true I suppose, but the email that arrived on Friday was a masterclass in rejection. It read: Thank you for applying for the post of Early Years Regulatory Inspector. I am writing to advise you that your application is being placed on hold after passing the initial selection stage. Unfortunately, due to the large number and high cal…

Many, many years ago I had the privilege of working with 4 super boys from one family....... The youngest has always held a very special place in my heart - I have seen him on and off over the years as we live in the same village..... However, we had pretty much lost touch when he went off to Uni - see his mum from time to time and she updates me - imagine my surprise when I came home today to find that he had dropped a letter through my door...... He is studying Drama and Theatre Arts and it has been a long running 'joke' that I gave him his love for all things theatrical - I spent many a happy time playing Dorothy for him (Wizard of Oz) :1b Anyway fantas…

Not sure which section to put this question in but here goes anyway! Due to flooding from an upstairs flat we have had to relocate to a local community hall, Ofsted have okay's this for 14 days. (I don't want to look daft and go back to them to clarify as you have to wait for so long on the phone for an answer) Has anyone else experience of this? Does this mean 14 working days i.e. 2 4/5th working weeks or does it mean 2 weeks? Thanks in anticipation

We have a Mum who really struggles with ideas to keep her two year old busy. At half term she said she spent a fortune 'keeping her entertained'. The Manager wants to cover the back of the newsletter with cheap and fun ideas for children. Such as - Make crowns out of paper bags. Make perfume in a jam jar with petals and water. Go on a snail hunt and then have a race. You know the type of thing. So any ideas for this would be brilliant, if you have a minute .....

Well I thought I would share our beautiful day with the children today. We held a street party in our car park, with an entertainer, good old fashioned party food, including jelly and ice cream, cakes made by the children, as well as a huge cake with candles. We all sang Happy Birthday to her and the National Anthem. Finished off with some games and the parachute. Each child received a commemorative coin from the pre-school and flag to take home. It was a very magical day. Now shattered and sitting in a heap. Cheers to everyone celebrating too this weekend.:)?
