Hello all! Apologies for not being about, I've been busy supply teaching and apply for jobs and finally have an interview at a school I've fallen in love with. However, upon receiving my interview task for a Rec/Year 1 post, I am desperate for advice. "Please bring with you something you would use to stimulate learning with a mixed Foundation/Year 1 class. Be ready to share how you would develop learning around this, what your expectations would be and how this could be matched to the needs of all the learners. Be as creative as you would like, refer to any experience you have had or would plan for, given the chance." Any suggestions or ideas? My mind has go…

I was sad to read in today's Nursery World that Elinor Goldschmeid has died aged 98. A true pioneer whose life's work impacts upon our practice in so many ways, the article pays a glowing tribute to her, as you would expect. Amongst those quoted in the article, Professor Sonia Jackson and Jennie Lindon summed her philosophy up very succinctly. The former said "Above all, she saw infants and toddlers as individual people whose experiences and feelings are just as important as ours". Jennie Lindon said "her approach always placed babies and young children at the centre of any experience". It says it all really. Maz

Hi everyone, I'm going to look around a school tomorrow with a view to applying for a teaching post (FS) as an NQT in september. Im just wondering if you can think of any good questions to ask, I already know what I want to be on the lookout for.....space for outdoor play, the classroom to see how it could be arranged, storage, resources, indications of how well children are valued across the school, indications of how well staff 'gel' together. But as experienced teachers/practitioners I wondered if you could think of easy questions to ask that would gain me more insight into the school and what it would be like to work there??? I really want to make a good imp…

A little lad brought in a box today which had, what I can only describe as dried out bugs in. Pretty impressive if you like that sort of thing! Anyway, after looking at it, Dad said he'd better take it home as it had come from Australia. But child wanted to keep it in school, so I promised Dad I'd put it on my desk and look after it. Towards the end of the day he wanted to show it to all his friends, so I carefully picked out this big fly, and it's head fell off! Luckily child didn't seem to mind, he was too busy showing off another creature. Mum didn't mind either when she picked him up, she asked if I wanted to keep them in school. Just have to face Dad in the …

Just thought I would share with you why I never want to see another Gingerbread man again as long as I live! Decided before we read Ginger bread man story I would get all the children in Reception (All 41 of them) to bake Gingerbread men so they knew what I was talking about when we did the story. I went out yesterday and got the ingredeints printed off the fab recipe on here using compare bears to weigh with so they could do it all themselves. Went to school this morning and set it all up and set about making them with small groups. Made the first two batches with no trouble at all and was feeling very proud of myself - cooking is not my favourite activity and I am asha…
