Hi everyone I just wanted to say how glad I am that I have found this site. Im doing my nvq 4 at the moment and opening up my own pre school in sept and I have found some graet ideas and articles. You all sound like a really knowledable and friendy lot and I look forward to visiting it lots Ps Is it addictive I've been on 3 times todays already!!!

How many of you charge a registration fee? If so do you charge funded children aswell as unfunded? For example if a 3 year old eligable for funding were to enquire about a place new to the area would you charge a fee? Or if a parent put a childs name down when a baby charge a fee to start when 2yr 10m but deferred until they were eligable for funding would you still charge a fee? Thanks in advance Andrea x

Monday - some of my staff gave me a plant to say thank-you for my energy and enthusiasm; Tuesday - a staff member offered to lend me her car, and my engine blew up 2 weeks ago, and she hasn't passed her test yet (I gratefully accepted - feeling quite overwhelmed); Wednesday - a staff member and her partner gave me a box of chocolates, for allowing the staff member to finish work early to attend an appotinment; Today - I was at a meeting today outside of nursery, and when I phoned in to touch base at the end of the day, my deputy said that a parent had bought a bunch of flowers in for me to thank me for supporting them through a family issue. When we got in to work this morning, we are in a church hall. Both my deputy and myself opened the door to where our tables are to find the poling boths ready for the 1st May. We struggled to get the stuff out but managed. Then at opening time my deputy were telling the parents that we would be closed as she got it into her head that voting takes place next Thursday! So we may see less children in the setting, but I must admit it is a little bit early to bring in the poling boths! Beth

We've Finally Moved In!

We moved into our new nursery at the newly built family centre on Monday. We were in an old church hall before so the change has been quite dramatic. The new room is much smaller, more classroom size but we have a much larger and better outside area which is constantly accessible to the children. There have been some teething problems, as there always are, but the main thing which has made all of the staff annoyed/upset is the attitude of the chair of our committee. She expected to be consulted about all work as the centre was built and was really cross that she wasn't included. As staff we didn't have any say about layout/size etc. we only got to help with choosing new…
