We heard today that a colleague has been taken ill with a notifiable disease. What does this actually mean? Is it just something thats contagious so we should we alert for the children becoming ill, or will the parents need to be informed? Im sure Ive read about it here before but cant find it now. Is it serious?

Following my recent redundancy due to finish work on July 25th - I have just found out I have been successful in getting a Leader position for a small village preschool. I didn't want to lead although I have missed it, so here I go again......slightly daunted especially reading all the posts recently that are so negative about leading - with regard to the paperwork, the nursery has an administrator and a treasurer so my duties are collating and cordinating and of course planning (I know what you are thinking and all the other stuff!!!)..... should I start the EYFS in September? I thought as I am new to the setting may as well change the structure and implement the ne…

What's the difference between an OFSTED inspector and a terrorist? You can negotiate with a terrorist? What's the difference between an OFSTED inspector and a paranoid schizophrenic? The schizophrenic only thinks everyone hates them. What's the difference between an OFSTED inspector and a haddock? One is wet and slippery, and the other's a fish. What's the difference between an OFSTED inspector and a bank robber? None. Once they have done their jobs, they get away as quickly as they can, leaving devastation behind them. What's the difference between an OFSTED inspector and a soldier? The soldier jumps to orders and the inspector jumps to conclusions. W…

I have just found some jobs going in a local primary school, which I worked volutary for 1 day (long story). Well at the time there was a pre-school nursery/out of school club run privately and now it seems something has happened because they are adversting various postions. Pre-School Manager, Deputy Pre-school Manger different pay scales both 30 hours per week. : Pre-School Assisants at 27.5 hours per week on a lower pay scale. Now there seem to be very little information on each postion. I don't know which to choose which could be the best postion, condidering I am studying for the Foundation Degree Early Years course on a Thursday and Friday for one…

One of my agencies keep ringing me up to see if I can work as an exam invigilator. Well I have been looking on the internet about them and I have found out that you need to have eaither traning or qualification for the job. I am not qualified to do such a task as a nursery nurse. I have sent them an email telling them this before but I think it went in one ear out the other senario. This place only seems to have this type of work going at the moment and the others don't seem to have much day to day work going eather. I feel like sending another email in block captials that I am not suitable for this line of work. On a postive note though one …

I am so pleased!! I had a hospital appointment today and found out that I won't have to have radiotherapy! (I was told this would probably be the case). I was also told that, as I have single sided deafness, I will be able to have a hearing aid. I thought that as the auditory nerve was damaged nothing would help me, so I am really pleased! Will probably have to wait months though! It will be great to be able to tell which children are talking! It's impossible to tell what direction sounds are coming from at the moment. I will be able to take it off at night though so that I still get a good night's sleep - if I sleep on my good side I can't hear my husband snoring a…
