I have been busy deleting photos from my lap-top - these of the children that are moving on to primary school in September - made me come over all unnecessary........as I reflected on what a good year we have had with lots and lots of fun! :1b (This was item 106 on the old 'to do' list - I will of course use whatever I can to avoid the important items like item 1 - accounts, item 2 - visit accountant re tax return  )

Apparently one of my newbies for September loves this singer - anyone recommend anything. Very old person here, never heard of him before. Please don't tell me he is that well known I should be ashamed of myself!!!

Today I dropped off our learning journies to a local primary school - as I put them down the reception teacher said "oh we don't really need to look at those, as long as you have the ecat" I replied "a lot of hard work has gone into those" and walked off before I said anything else!!!!! How dare she belittle the hard work our setting has done with these books and children !!! Has anyone else had that sort of reply?

Well yesterday was our last day of term. We have enjoyed a wonderful week of fun including our end of term concert, and a party style session each day. In all the rubbish that we are dealt in Early Years pales into insignificance when you hear the beautiful comments from the parent/ carers and grandparents of the children in our care. This is truly why I love my job. Those that are now on a break I do hope you get to relax and for those working through the summer I hope it is enjoyable for you all. Fx

Ok, so, September is going to be horribly quiet for us..and for other groups, it seems. One setting a couple of villages away from us has hit on an idea that I am considering implementing, but I'd appreciate your thoughts They are offering up to 7 hours totally free of charge, so long as the family matches it with paid for hours. It's for the first term only, so 6 weeks. Obviously, the hope is that the family will keep the paid for hours going once the offer is finished. I am up for trying this, but I'd appreciate your thoughts............

Has anyone read the Billy Bonkers books to their reception class or do you think they are more suited to Key Stage 1? I have never read these book so am not familiar with them. I am looking for suitable stories that would be good to read 1 chapter per day. Is anyone old enough to remember Enid Blyton's 'Mr Twiddle'?!

What will you be paying your staff? We always put our wages up in September in line with whatever minimum wage goes up by eg 3% this year But I've been thinking about the living wage & how we will have to put wages up again in April. Just wondered what others are planning?

Hello, I was wondering if anyone had some advise they could give me. I have a job interview next week for a trainers role and have been asked to do a 15 minutes presentation Miro teach on the following topic: 'describe the developmental differences of children in different age groups' I just wanted to make sure I have the topic clear in my head and have interpreted it correctly. Would you have I do the presentation talk about children in two different ages bands but explain that each child is unique/ differences in development etc. So for example Jack could be walking at 11 months but might not till 14 months and then talk about some of the reason's why. …

Was anyone else watching Heather Watson vs Serena Williams? Much excitement (and a very late dinner!) in this house - I really thought she had it at one point......
