I was looking on my local authority website at jobs as has been my habit the last few years to see what is about and saw a post for an EYP hourly pay rate of £6.54! Really? Is this all a graduate is worth? I get £7.00 an hour to stack shelves in a supermarket! I'm pretty shocked and funnily enough I'm not sure if I am tempted back now.

Phew! I was feeling enthusiastic about today's return after the Easter hols - though slightly 'worried' as my deputy has started Jury Service today - poor thing she was dreading it - let's hope it doesn't go on for too long - she was planning to sit in a corner wringing her hands, rocking and muttering in the hope that she didn't get chosen - wonder how that's worked out for her We always work 'over ratio' so not a real 'problem' without her - just not as 'comfortable'! :1b My most 'challenging' child was booked out on holiday - guess what he turned up! Anyway - we managed! Hope everyone has had a good day :1b

well, two days back and i can honestly say that it has been great. we have been outside for the vast majority of the day - the children enjoying the beautiful weather - those who have spent the day with us have been very happy and tired at home time with all the fresh air and fun out side. whats the weather like where you are?

Is anyone able to recommend books about adoption? I had a long chat with an adoptive parent this morning about her journey/her adopted child's journey, how he might react to changes in a different way, attachment and security, his behaviour and development. The child has been with us for about a year - he has just turned three, we have always known he is adopted. It is a shame she left it so long before we had this conversation, although I can understand why she did. She wasn't complaining at all but she raised some points that got me thinking that we could be managing her child differently. They are about to adopt their third child (they are birth parents to their…

Hi all - I need to tell you about something that has happened to us, and I'm sorry that it will not be easy reading. If you're feeling fragile, perhaps it is better for you not to read further at the moment - I have to leave that to you. Just over a month ago, we lost our lovely daughter Annie, who was three months short of her eighteenth birthday. Her death was completely unexpected; until then she had been a happy healthy girl. As we have subsequently discovered, this is rare, but not unheard of, and the (unproveable) tentative cause of death is being given as Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS). There is an accurate account of the circumstances here. Annie's fun…

Don't know whether it was the effect of finally seeing a touch of sunshine but today my children have been full of some brilliant questions. After lunch we ended up sat on the carpet (all calm and engaged) for about 40 minutes because they just kept asking question after question. Some of my favourites include: Why does the candle go out when you put that thing (the snuffer) over it? How does food get into my belly? How does electricity get from the light switch to the light when they are so far apart? and my favourite which I couldn't answer! Why do people say 'the alarm's gone off' when it starts? i.e. shouldn't we say 'the alarm's gone on'?! There were a cou…

we are looking to change the way we evaluate our practice as I don't feel we include the parents and children enough in what we do - does anyone have a great way of evaluating that involves parents and children that is easy to do?
