I odered a pirate ship and island from M&S Mercantile - when it arrived it wasn't suitable - too many small parts and not well made to withstand pre-school use. I phoned them to let them know that I would like to return it and the reason why. They told me that it would be £20 collection charge and a 10% re-stocking charge PLUS VAT. The thing only cost £25 !!!!! It does actually say that goods are not supplied on a sale or return basis - but I DIDN'T READ IT !!!! The box is quite large although not too heavy - they suggested I might like to try and find a cheaper way of returning it. I will definitely think twice before ordering anything from them again - just in …

Why is it somedays it dosnt matter how hard you work there are always complaints over trivial things at the end of the day? I know our parents pay alot of money to send their children and sometimes it feels like the expect too much over and beyond what I can give them. Am sure they are the usual stuff in other centres but boy it really makes you question if its worth all the hassle. I love working with the kids but the parents can drive you MAD rant rant rant!!!!!!! Anyone got any magic ideas of how to calm down at the end of the day? Moan over

At Home With Flu
by Guest- 10 replies

Is anyone else off with the flu - feeling really sorry for myself. Aching, coughing, hot and then cold, and no energy. Will probably be off for rest of week. Apparently eight children in my class have been off with similar symptoms, and three were taken to hospital with rashes and breathing problems, but are ok now. Very annoyed as I tried to get flu jab (privately) but they ran out of supplies. Back to curling up under my blanket!!!!!

Giraffes

I have to tell you about this as it makes the job all worth while : Yesterday in the nursery I was sat on my 'teachers chair' & all the children were sat on the floor. I started to say something to the children which I became very aware of as soon as I opened my mouth (if that makes sense): "There's a draft coming through that window today" I said, & smiled as I realised what they must've thought. One little boy smiled at me and said "No there's not!" Someone else said "But there's one on the curtains." (we have a zoo animal pattern on the curtains). then a little girl said "And there's a beautiful zebra too!" I had to laugh, & although I tried …

Hi all, Just to update you all. My hubby and I have just completed the Fostering Course and I now have to complete a portfolio stating competences ( a bit like an NVQ unit). We have had numerous assessment visits from a social worker, they started off quite tense, a bit like having lots of interviews, but now they have become much more informal. Only two more assessment visits to go. The course also included a "personality/attitude" assessment element and the tutor told us on Monday that we have passed that. The next step is for the social worker to interview family and referees, to complete the course portfolio, to do health and safety risk assessments o…

Knitting

I spent a really good day yesterday at the Chinese arts centre in Manchester. The artist in residence at the moment is an American and he wanted to do some knitting. My friend's daughter works at the centre so she roped her mum in to help organise a knitting fest this weekend. So I went along as members of the public were welcome to drop in and take part. We were though not knitting with wool but plastic carrier bags which had been cut into strips! We were making large oblongs which were then stretched over black canvases. They looked really effective and what a great way to recycle all those unwanted carrier bags. I will never look at a Tesco's or Sainsbury's bag in the…
