Letters And Parcels Topic
by Guest- 11 replies

Our new topic is letters and parcels. I teach a nursery class in the inner city with just 3's to nearly 5's. We have some children with no English and lots with very poor language skills, but some of the older children are very articulate. Can anyone suggest any good books related to the topic? We are already going to use 'Bunny Cakes' by Rosemary Wells.

Radio 4 played a programme this saturday dedicated to the best book EVER!!!! Have a listen if you missed it. BBC listen again Can you believe it's 35 year old????? How many children now adults have listened to this story? That's an awe inspiring thought. I can't remember a year since I started teaching when I haven't used it for something.

Sucess Criteria

Do all of you have success critera in you lesson/activity plans. I beleive that while planning for the ELGs each child may have a differnt achievement level- therby providing for differentiation within the same activity. How does the success critera work and does it not take way the independance and spontaneity from the child. An activity like using the weighing balance- for some chidlren they will be able to hypothesise possible outcomes, some will be able to tell you why one side tips down, and for some just ebing able to make the balalnce move from side to side by adding or removing objects ewithin it will be learning achieved. how do you measure the suceess and is…

I Think My Cat Needs Therapy!

Ok anyone out there know any cat psychology? We have 4 cats- One 'standalone' (male)lol and a mother and her daughter and son. All are neutered. Now here's the thing the son, who is a little over 4 years old, and not overly blessed in the brains department - he still struggles to work the catflap cos he will try to pull it IN instead of push it OUT Anyway, every morning, after they have all been fed, he just wanders all round the house meowing like mad, as if he is looking for something He can be distracted by stroking etc. but then he goes back to it - it lasts for about 5-10 mins, then he finds somewhere to sleep, and is then fine until the next morning! It can'…

Hi, forgot to tell you about this but I'm still dumbstruck so I thought I'd share it now... we occasionally let students from the local secondary come for purposes of their courses. The latest, are 3 year 12's, who havent shown much of a spark but are no worse than previous ones. Last week all 3 were in the kitchen washing the paint stuff, when one of them came flapping to me (yes physically flapping her arms ) saying that the tap wouldnt turn off. I followed thinking a call to the caretaker was on the cards. In the kitchen all 3 girls watched as I turned the hot tap on the mixer tap, and then the cold. Hey presto, no more running water. All 3 stared at me and 1 ask…

The 'o' Word

Well tomorrow morning those lovely ( ) men and lady will enter our school and they will be there until Thursday lunchtime. I'm absolutely petrified of the whole thing as it is my first inspection as a teacher, so it's the fear of the unknown and the fact that my class (mixed age and mixed phase) was brought up several times in the pre-inspection commentary, as well as my subject (ICT!) I'm either going to be on here loads or not at all during this week. I'll either be escaping or so busy I wont have time to come on. Wish me luck and I'll see you all out the other side!

I've finally made up my mind. After 4 years of teaching, i've decided to give it up. I qualified as a mature student and stress of working in the nursery has made me decide that i'm worht more than the job and my life needs more than just work. Also just heard that one of my old student's (he's 5 now!) father just dropped dead last week. no one knew that he had a dogdy heart till he died. Life shouyld mean more than planning, reviewing and assesment. so i'm giving it all up taking a break and thinking how best to fill each day. I know that its not an option for many people who have to work to bring in the money but a tragedy like this makes you wake up and want to …

I was very privileged to day to be taken to see the 'earth from the air' exhibition in Birmingham. Wow it blew me away! Not only are the photogaraphs even big enough for me to see, but they also have tactile versions of the photos which are amazing. It is breathtakingly stunning! If you havent seeen it, I urge you to, I believe it has or is doing the rounds across the country. and the web site is here but it really doesnt do it justice earth from the air
