We had a little boy come into our group for a settling in day. Mum stayed with him but kept a distance while he played. They went home happy and we all waved goodbye. When I arrived home, mum had taken the time to send me a lovely e-mail, saying what a great time they had had, and that the little boy was pretending to be me, and that I must have made a great impression on him! She said that it was so lovely to see myself and the staff bubbly from the time the doors opened until home time, and said for me to put my feet up and take time for me! She was just so lovely and made me once again really appreciate how lucky I am to have the job I have and the part we play in chi…

Hi all! Now, I expect you're all going to start throwing things and bad hexes at me, but....... I've just discovered an up-side to long-term sick! When you have a husband on shifts, there's NO LIMIT to the number of barbies you can have - except the boredom factor, I suppose? Sue

Do the more experienced have any thoughts about the following matter. I teach a Reception class. My Head came in to do an observation last week. She was surprised at some children's reluctance to use shopping list paper to mark make in a random 'have a go' way. The paper was in a role play area set up as the 3 pigs house of bricks. My experience so far is that this seems to be stage related. The children who are less able in writing and use of sounds seem to have less hang ups and will role play write to their hearts content. Those who are a bit further along in their skills seem hung up by what they don't know and are concsious of ideas like correct spelli…

I went to the Early Years and Primary exhibition in Manchester today with my deputy manager. We do this every year, have lunch and a laugh! Have bought far too much stuff and spent more than I planned to! I did buy Let's go Zudeo and Mouse Music on recommendation from members on the site. We had a really good day and I am looking forward to using our new equipment in pre-school. Linda

Hi all, not very golden but Can you help? I have a friend who has found herself in the unenviable position of being threatened with a knife by a parent. The father turned up demanding to see his son and as access is denied the child was removed leaving the teacher with the irate father. Needless to say my friend is more than a little distressed by the ordeal and is concerned about returning to work, immediately because the police have as yet failed to apprehend the man and in the long term recognises that perhaps their policy needs reviewing. What do you do? Has anyone else been in this sort of terrible situation?

I am studying minibeasts with my reception class at the moment. We went on a minibeast hunt and returned with a collection from the garden ready for our observational drawings. We discussed the similarities and differences and when looking at the snail I asked if it had legs. One bright little spark said 'no, it's got a foot'. I explained to the other children that snails have one long foot that they use to move along the ground but that we couldn't see it at the moment as it was sleeping! I then let them get on with their drawings. One little treasure decided to draw the snail and when I went over to look at his picture, he had done a lovely drawing of the shell with a l…
