Friday Evening

Just come back from taking the dog for a walk and it is freezing out there!! Has winter finally arrived? Looking forward to tomorrow. I am going to get up early and watch the rugby-fingers crossed!! Then I am having my first taste of Christmas! My husband rides a motor bike and every November he goes on a ride from Manchester city centre to the Trafford Centre with hundreds of other bikers. It is organised by the Salvation Army and they raise money and collect toys for needy children in the north west. It ends with a carol service in the Trafford Centre and it is a wonderful event-all these bikers in their leathers with cuddly toys etc. singing their hearts out!!! It's a…

can anyone help... we have been given some info and wondered if it was correct. Should 50% of time be spent outdoors each week? We all recognise the importance of the outdoor classroom but is this not a little high? if it is correct can anyone tell us where we can access the info?

Chat Room!
by Steve- 9 replies

Hi - People have been asking me recently whether the chatroom works because whenever they go into it no-one is there The answer is that it isn't widely used - so when one person pops in it's unlikely that others will also be logged in. But I've noticed that over the last few days an average of 6 or 7 people have logged in during an evening, stayed a minute or two then logged out. What I'd suggest is that if you're going to be browsing the forums for a little while anyway, you leave the chat room open and you may well find that others log in while you're there. You should get a little audible prompt (usually a voice saying 'Welcome') if you've got your pc set up…

Well Steve, I'm not sure we came in our hundreds but we certainly came! Well done. As for the drink you wanted, I'm not sure you had time. Only one other question, where was Helen? You promised Helen would be with you! Oh, just another observation I can type much faster here than in the chat room, why? Susan

Im sat outside watching the lunar eclise which is very clear tonight despite there being some cloud around. You could argue that its like watching paint dry but it dosnt happen often that you can see one in the UK. Whilst indulging in this moment of madness, I do wonder why this particular forum is underused? Or is it my imagination? Or are we all so busy with our work that we have no time for anything else? Or better still, are our social lives so busy that we simply dont have time for lounging around in here. Just wondering....(and trying to keep awake)

Barnardo's Toddle
by Guest- 4 replies
Has anybody else done the toddle for Barnardo's? We have participated this year for the fifth time. Each year has been more and more successful and it is such an easy fundraiser The children have to "toddle" for half a mile. We have always done our own toddle but there are organised events at venues all over the country. Ours involves us walking to a garden area at the front of the church walking around the grassed area five times and walking back to our premises. The money raised is split between Barnardo's and the group-75% for them and 25% for us. We have raised £708.95 so far this year with some more to come!!! We did ours on Thursday, 12th June, one at 9.30am a…

Making A Donation
by Guest- 5 replies
I have just been on the homepage of the forum-it's not something I normally do as I log in and stay with all the message boards. I noticed the donation logo and have just made a donation. There are over 1200 members now and if each one of us donated £1 I'm sure that would be a great help to Steve and Helen. I for one find this site a lifeline. It's a great place for getting ideas, giving ideas and sounding off!! So come on everybody-get the old plastic card out and lets make sure this forum is here for a long, long time to come!!!! Linda PS Steve, now that I have looked properly and realised what you have done I think it is much better. I just have to make sure I've g…

Cloth Nappies
by Guest- 1 reply

I don't know what sort of reaction this may get but here goes... I read on another message someone singing the praises of cloth nappies. I work in a day nursery and three of our babies now use cloth nappies. I understand all the reasons their parents have for doing so, enviromentally friendly etc but I have to say I think they are horrrible. Even with us changing the babies very very frequently (about every one and half hours) we see more nappy rash and sore bottoms with these children than the ones in disposables. It means we have bags of wet nappies in the changing area, (and they can get smelly) whereas the disposable nappies get put in clinical waste dispos…

Nqt Support?
by Guest- 1 reply

I just wondered if anyone else out there is an NQT and feels that there would be value in setting up a support network?! I'm loving it so far (although I am exhausted), but it would be good to share experiences, feelings etc. with others in the same position. What do you think? Hope to hear from you! Shelley

Hi - We’ve come up with a new structure for the forums, following feedback that a) it would be easier for practitioners and teachers if they had their own dedicated sections, and that it was sometimes not clear what was in which forum. I’d be very grateful if you could have a look through and give me your impressions. Let me know if there are any obvious omissions! Thanks in advance!
