my nursery is closing in 3 weeks time and I am in the thick of boxing up, clearing out and selling on ............. but I am finding it really hard to let some things go. So in my memory box to take back to my house and store (and never open again probably) are a hand puppet which I made several eons ago and which I used regularly at storytime long before the invention of persona dolls, 6 metres of irridescent butterfly material which I never found a use for but still makes me smile at how beautiful it is, my favourite storybook (The House That Sneezed), a tub of sequins (I love sparkle), a photo album of the work which was done to convert a warehouse into a school when…

This isn't strictly work related so thought I'd wander over here My friend is a first time mum and has gone back to work recently. Her daughter is in a nursery baby room (not mine, not my area) and she feels she's getting poorly all the time I've tried reassuring her about 'new nursery syndrome' and low immune systems when they are little and she'll 'toughen' up and be better when she's been there a little while longer It worked for a while but now she's got it in to her head their hygiene is at fault - I'm pretty sure it's not that as we've had similar bouts of illness here and friends have in their nurseries - the seasonal stuff that whips round fast. I'm more of th…

Hi, had a health and safety dvd today - a refresher on what we should be doing and what we actually do do. however, one thing that came out of it is that we dont have written procedures for how we deal with bodily fluids/ spillages - also what we would do in the case of a spillage of hazardous fluids on someone / someone drinking hazardous fluids. we all just do it - does anyone have written procedures on these i could have a look at please? thank you x

You know the child we all have at some time or another who is challenging? The one who's a bit too physical, cant wait, cant empathise, cant be gentle? Well ours is being gossiped about by 2 or 3 parents and its making really me angry  I've posted a comment on our facebook page about gossip and tittle-tattle regarding children and had a poster up at playgroup. Today, the child of one of the parents involved was pushed over by Mr Challenger. Pushed childs parent wasnt happy and said Mr Challenger was always doing it and to child said, 'he doesnt like you does he?' I reminded pushed childs parent that if anything had happened previously it hadnt been bought to m…

As ever, apologies to those not having a break! I am beginning to feel quite 'guilty' - can't believe it's half-term already - I feel as if we are rarely at work these days - if i feel like this - how must parents be feeling? :1b That said - next term will be a long 'slog'....... Nothing special planned here - some pottering about hard work in my garden.....s'pose I had better start printing off new starter packs........hmmm have plenty of 'home' paperwork to sort out...... Anyone doing anything exciting with their break?
