Now the summer is here, how are all you term time setting workers planning to spend your summer? Anyone actually going away? Not sure I'm brave enough to venture abroad just yet- and to be honest that suits me fine as I'm not really a 'summer holiday' type person anyway . I feel I've lapsed into some kind of early retirement (well not 'so' early). I'm considering cutting back my hours.... then today out of the blue someone has asked if we have any jobs going 😳..... I feel it's a sign! I need to do a TDL. (I'm waiting for sunnyday to get us all on a roll with that one), and I think I shall be asking a lot of a few questions to those of you who reopened …

For us as a term time setting we are now almost at the summer break which is crazy! It is usually the half term that seems to go on forever but passes by in a blur - the half term where you usually are arranging goodbye celebrations / graduations etc., which will sadly be missing this year. What will you miss most? For me it is not being able to say "Goodbye" to those children who were unable to return for a variety of reasons. 😌😪

we use tapestry (and love it) but we are finding our obs are getting a bit long ( I love writing things the children say as think that is what parents love to read) - does anyone have any ideas on how to shorten these without losing the personality of the child (if you know what I mean) - any pointers, ideas , examples would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

This just popped up on my social media timeline....! wrote it four years ago when I was getting to the end of my tether with paperwork and ticking boxes for bean counters and Government stats.... Ode to the Early Years Practitioner I’d like to be a smiley face and holding children’s hands Whilst guiding them through early years supporting where I can I’d like to sit and play a while, converse and skip and hop I’d bounce around with little ones who run and never stop I’d like to help the mixing, the gluing and the gloop And then lay back exhausted in the resting space all pooped I’d like to sustain thinking but not over rule or lead But follo…

There seem to be increasing numbers of different letterbox gifts around now and I love getting things through the post. I have seen tea, flowers, biscuits and cheese among others. I am thinking of putting some together for loved ones I have only seen on a screen for ages and will only see that way for a good while to come. So, I have two questions: 1. What would you wish for in a letterbox gift for yourself? 2. What would you put in a box for a child? I’m thinking of one for my niblings (aged 3, 8 and 12) and so far have come up with: a Lego minifigure, packet of seeds, a sweet treat of some kind. Any other ideas?!

I just wanted to say thank you to a few (dare is say old?) familiar faces and of course to some new ones...this forum used to be my spiritual home and was what helped me get through my level 3, 4 and degree....then with the advent of social media I had found I wasn't on here so much but because of all the stress in the last few weeks over , you know what.....I revisited and you pulled up my favourite chair, sat me down and we started off as if we had never been apart...so thank you to those who knew me from old and those who now know me a new and I promise to stay active and get back in the flow xx.

Does anyone have any good online CPD courses that are free to access please? Looked at OU but the courses were pretty boring . Have found a site where there are courses that are free to access which show you most of course but to access the rest and get a certificate you need to pay (hope that makes sense) but they are good to watch - GriffinOT is the site, well worth a look !!

I'm not sure if I am being a really grumpy manager but I would be interested to see if anyone has banned staff wearing watches that display texts etc. I am finding that staff are regularly looking at their watches and then having a bit of a chat about a text or Facebook comment they have seen. I have a policy regarding phones, that they are kept in a locked cupboard and should only be accessed when they are on a break and they have to give the setting mobile number for emergency contact so wonder if this should include watches. I know I would have a backlash as they also record their 'steps' and do wonder if I am just being over sensitive - would really appreciate other…
