Every year one or two teachers leave our local primary (we are in the grounds) and very few of them ever seem to go on to another school. The majority seem to be making a change of direction to do something completely different. Our Reception class has now lost both its teachers in two years and one of the very experienced TA's as well. To be honest, sometimes changes are really positive, but some very good teachers have decided that education is not for them anymore, sadly.

I'm so pleased to have found this website - I've been out of teaching for 5 years and it has been great to get up to date and see wonderful resources. I look forward to becoming part of the community here. I don't know if anyone could help me straight off... I'm so worried, I applied for a reception teacher position and one of the things they asked for was previous experience of EYFS. I applied stating previous experience, which I truly thought I had as I recall teaching the Foundation Stage in 2004. I didn't realise that Foundation Stage and EYFS were too different things as I recall the different learning areas and stepping stones and assessments. I've just started re…

Just need to have a moan!! Like everyone else I was so looking forward to half term, REALLY needed the break had loads of 'too do jobs' planned and was even being treated to the theatre today. But oh no, Monday morning myself, my son and my husband all go down with some horrible flu like virus. Have been flat on my back ever since!! Have got upright today at last. Still feel dreadful and half term is almost over. Apparently the theatre was fab, I am so fed up. Just thinking that it really is dedication to my work to get ill during the holidays and never during term time!!!!:-(

I just wondered how many days on average does an average staff member have off ...how many do you allow as 'acceptable' ...? I'm just really at the end of my tether with my staff - some of whom have already gone way over the limit...too many days for illnesses and then they take extras for children being ill and smaller part sessions because "oh I could only get an appointment at X o'clock today or it'll be X-day before I can get in...so I'll just have to take the whole morning / afternoon off"...etc etc... there always seems to be an urgent, family emergency, or no change possible, case often giving me notice at the last minute and that I feel I cant say no to because …

Hi all Need some advice in a very brief nutshell I have a member of staff who is not doing her job well and we have recently had to give a verbal warning. Despite support, compassion, training, reduction of work load and taking some responsible roles off of her things are still not looking good and we are monitoring things closely. We did suggest before Christmas that she sign off with stress as myself and the chair had real concerns about her emotional well being, we even offered to pay her the last two weeks if finance was an issue however she would not do this. She holds the role of assistant play leader. I was the play leader but my title and job description wa…

Just needing to sound off , just when I think we have a great team and we all working towards a better work practice and provision for our children , I seem to have one member of staff who just seems intent on upsetting the apple cart and seems to want to enjoy peeing me off !! She takes it upon her self to question others behind my back and make them feel uncomfortable too as well as being ignorant and rude to me rather than talk. What really riles me is that I have been very supportive in her taking time off for personal reasons , have open chats and supervision records and give her every opportunity to talk and then she waits til the next day to retaliate and question…

Soooo bored, bored, bored, bored, bored. I have now been off work for a week following my abdominal hysterectomy last Wednesday and can't face watching anymore slip slide, slope style fall on your backside style olympics, I have read 5 books, watched a few good movies on sky but I am now so bored. So, it's time to try creating a website, do my SEF and another million tasks I never get time to do. As owner/manager I am desperate to return to work (Yes I am in pain and rather uncomfortable but hey ho I can get over that with paracetamol). I can access the computer system at work from home and also view the CCTV - I have resisted doing both so far. (Well, apart from doing …
