I have ALWAYS stressed that we offer free flow between in and outdoors and stress this with every new parent and at interviews for staff, yet I have practically all my staff in a huff about my insistence that we let children play out in the rain or cold. The main barrier is that staff themselves don't come prepared to do so!! I bring a proper waterproof, windproof winter, wellies and even bring spare clothes in winter just in case but none of my staff, knowing that they are expected to be ready to support children at play outdoors all year round, come dressed as Id expect them to. …

I've just got back fom my third Christmas Day celebration with my sister, her husband and children. They've just got back fom 3 weeks in Nepal spending time with my brother-in-law's family. While they were there my nephew came out with this: They speak different words but they laugh the same, they smile the same, they cry the same and they even burp the same! I'm so proud of him and of his lovely parents for helping to grow up to be able to see that - I hope he keeps that insight always.

We'll finally after 2 years of being at preschool , we finally have our office near completion . It 's amazing what you can do with disused toilet area and thanks to donations of help and furniture we are in. Have spent the last 2 days shredding and sorting through old files and trying to get ready for Monday. Having been down with flu over Christmas has put me behind but here's to a more organised 2014

It occurs to me that some of you have been following my Cancer progress and might like to hear that I have now been officially discharged by my Oncologist.....so, no more hospital visits unless something crops up to worry me ( I am not planning to let anything beginning with 'C' worry me......only the 'O' letter can do that from now on!). So, to all of you who spurred me on.....thank you. To those who are starting/in the middle of/ nearing the end of any tests or treatment, I hereby declare: THERE IS LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL !! Happy Christmas everyone xxx )))

I have been invited to a New Year's Eve party at which there is fancy dress. I have no problem with dressing up, no problem with looking silly but I have lots of problems coming up with ideas! So, I thought I'd see if any of you lovely, creative people have any?! There is no particular theme - the people I'm going with are going as Indiana Jones, Princess Leia and someone from Baywatch. So, any suggestions... I have been told that the fancy dress isn't compulsory - I could just go in a "wild shirt" if I wanted to but I'm really touched that I was invited and would like to make an effort!

OK I have finally simmered down enough to talk about this. I made a referral for a child on a Monday morning about something that was brought to my attention on the Friday at 6pm. I had absolutely no concerns about this child previously and did not view it as urgent.(Sorry I can't expand more on my concern) so that was why I left it till then. I was then called back on the Tuesday to say that she had a named social worker and that the mum had postnatal depression. I knew absolutely nothing of this and obviously as an experienced safeguarding manager would have phoned it through immediately had I known. I felt very cross that I had not been contacted by the social worker -…
