I have posted in here as it's personal and don't want it open to everyone. Can anyone suggest any books/texts/support groups or have any ideas of what to do to support a 6 year old who very suddenly lost her mam yesterday? Mam has taken her own life though we don't know if it was intentional or not at this moment in time. Her dad and mam are separated but Mam has caused a lot of arguments over last few months and repeatedly told dad he can't have access then a few days later changed her mind. Now I know a memory book would be a nice idea but I don't think this can be done immediately due to feelings running high and very mixed feelings at that. Child's d…

Hi all, I need to vent my frustration and share the stress with people who might actually understand - husband not helpful here. Over last few months it's been brought to my attention that my safeguarding rep had some concerns about twins we have in our setting. These were minor, but children made comments we had to follow up with mum and put on record. It happened 3 times. You know, a chat on a side. Child said this, could you explain please and so on. Each time mum gave a satisfactory explanation. Today another comment was made by one of the twins that the safeguarding rep asked mum about. She got all defensive, laughed everything off but then proceeded to make an …

I was very saddened to read today of the death of Helen Bromley, another inspiring early years trainer and consultant. I remember hearing her speak a few years ago and thinking how easy she was to listen to and dedicated and passionately she spoke. For those who dont know her work, she was a regular contributer to Nursery World and wrote a number of those books "50 exciting things....' Thought are with her family, friends and colleagues at such a sad time.

I made a big pot of mice stew and dumplings for tea and a great big pan of butternut squash soup for lunches for the week. The weather must be getting cooler!! What do you start doing at this time of year when the nights are dark and colder (keep it clean)

Inappropriate hobbies 1 2

I have just been laughing to myself as I practise my new hobby. I am learning burlesque and was thinking what would parents think if they could see me stripping off my evening gloves with my teeth and practising my bosom heaving and was wondering if anyone else has any other interesting hobbies which parents would be surprised to hear about. One if my other hobbies is also one which I don't advertise to parents, I collect victorian mourning jewellery which commemorate the deaths of children by preserving locks of their hair in brooches and rings. When I applied to university my (soon to be) tutors were horrified and suggested that I didn't include it in any future early…

Went for a walk this afternoon because it was that lovely golden autumn sunshine and I just couldn't stay inside. Found some gorgeous and enormous maple leaves which I think will be just right for the new number line I want to make so I collected lots. So far, ok... I've just got home and washed them - they are now drying all over my dining room carpet! Is there any hope?!

Ill be popping into the chat room this evening, lets say around 8.30 ish for a quick dust, feshen the place up, open the windows etc. I have some deliciously gorgeous hot chocolate that really needs to be shared, but as usual, if you have a favourite tipple, bring it along. Oh I think we are running low on mugs, anyone got any spares?
