I have recently started as Manager in a nursery. Girls have a lunch break, half an hour paid and half an hour not paid. None of them seemed to know what their contracted hours are and by the sounds of things have never dow, what I call, rolling shifts; so I have been checking that they are all working their contracted hours.....some have not, they have been working less!!! I dont think I am going to be popular! One lady is contracted to 40 hours; she has been working 8am to 4.30pm with an hours lunch. Now I may be having a senior moment (which is the reason for this post) but should she not be working till 5pm? An 8 hour day (Mon-Fri=40 hours plus 5 x 1 hr lunch breaks,…

Risk assessing me because I have hearing loss.

Hello everyone, it's quite a while since I came on here but I know there are people out there who can help. Question, do I have to inform all parents at the pre-school that I have a hearing loss? this isn't new to me as it happened 10 years ago. I am open about this and haven't hidden it from anyone but having had a meeting to risk assess my hearing loss, they now want me to personally inform all parents about this. What does everyone think, as I am feeling very demoralised at the moment.? Mary

That time of year folks. If like me, you forgot, then you got up this morning at silly o'clock. The dark evenings approach...

Question.......................one of my mums asked me if a pre-school, nursery etc can tell a parent their child is being turfed out on the grounds that they 'only use a couple of hours over FE and we can make more money by having younger children in who are not yet entitled to FE'. My understanding is that the parent was never warned that this could happen and is absolutely shattered at the setting's stance. I know what I think............but can they do this?? The setting is in London

Happy half-term (for those of us lucky enough to get a break!) Hasn't it come round quickly - or perhaps not everyone agrees........this first term has just flown by for me and I feel that we have made some great progress with our 'newbies' :1b hope the next 'lot' settle well - they have benefited from lots of short 'taster' sessions this term - so fingers crossed! :1b Looking forward to - a week of not having to get up early and 'rush around' like one of those 'blue bottomed' flies! Not looking forward to - the clocks 'going back' and the weather forecast for Monday is making me very 'nervous' too and then of course the 'c word' will be on everyone's lips Anyway - …

Hi all On Monday we have a maths theme week at school and everyone has to go in maths related fancy dress. I'm thinking of going as a fisherman with foam fish pinned to my top with the 1.2.3.4 5 once I caught a fish alive rhyme pinned to my back. Can anyone think of anything better? Thank you x
