we are sometimes asked if there is anything that the pre-school would like as a present from our families. Over the last few years i have produced a wish list so that we get what we want !! So i was just wondering...what would you have on your wishlist for your setting this year? any favourite resources or things you couldn't do without??

Need seriosly cheering up so Ive been thinking about something that happened yesterday and would love to share it with you all! A child was making a card for his Mummy at the writing table. He had selected all the things he needed from the writing trolley nearby and made a beautiful picture of 'christmas' with snow and fir trees and glitter. He then asked a member of staff supporting the area how to write Mummy so she wrote mummy for him on a piece of paper and he copied it. A little while later as I was passing he was keen to show me what he had done. I couldnt help smiling as I praised him as I was puzzled by soemthing he had written underneath the word mummy! Then I r…

Today has been a day of mixed emotions! I started work at 730 this morning and I've only walked through the door!!! Three days into our summer break I realised that we are running our strongest summer programme to date! The air has been filled with little minds talking about what has been happening and an awful lot of laughter, from the older children who though it would be funny to all throw water at me at the same time, ( I did have to laugh myself) to some lovely new babies settling in. Jumping over waves and building sand castles at the beach and stopping off for some ice-cream. We had only returned from the beach, when I got a phone call from one of the fath…

Just catching up on twitter and saw a retweet from Sarah Brown about the 'Walk for Women' campaign taking part this summer to celebrate those women who marched in 1913 and converged on Hyde Park to campaign for women's right to vote. It strikes me that we here on the FSF have become politically more and more aware as the years have gone by because of what successful Governments have done (and tried to do) to our workforce. I was wondering if anyone fancies taking part in a kind of 'walk for early years' event of some kind, both to mark the 1913 walk but also as a way of showing that we are passionate about our work and won't stand idly by whilst this (or any) Gove…

I want to buy a camera for me. I might even do a photography class. I want something fairly easy to use, although if I do a class no doubt anything more complicated can be learnt, I want to be able to take pictures when I'm out and about, landscapes and close ups but also at gigs and parties. An HD video would be good too. I can go to about £300. So far I've looked at the Panasonic Lumix range, good reviews but Canon and Nikon come out good too. Any ideas?

This was a lecture given by Ken Robinson live at the RSA yesterday. I am a big fan of his and the fact that he makes several disparaging remarks about policy makers and Gove in particular endear me to him even more

Some little while ago, somebody posted about making scratch cards, they mixed a couple of things together and then the children could scratch it off to reveal what was underneath. Have tried searching can't find a thing - any chance anyone out there knows what I am prattaling on about? We just wanted to do something newish along encouragement for making marks for a purpose - could use magic writing, i.e. candle and then paint but this little idea popped into my head today.
